Timing belt tensioners

Hi, Just found out that the very expensive timing belt tensioners for some of ours Biturbo's are really not that expensive after all. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Tensioner for QP V8 Evo and Shamal is also used on Mitsubishi and Hyundai - part MD137302 and 24410-33101. Usually costs around £70 at your local parts store.

Other Biturbo tensioners are also found in the Mitsubishi range such as 3200GT/QPV6/Ghibli V6 is found on Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5 V6 24v.

On a slightly related note, what's the general consensus about hydraulic vs mechanical tensioners and their compatibility with the Contitech and Dayco belts? Even Maserati was switching back and forth between the two tensioners, there were also two different timing wheel designs as well (one with spokes and one with holes). I had a mechanical with the spoked wheels running Dayco belts since 6 years or so. I've just replaced the wheels to the other variant because the original ones were badly corroded. Kept everything else.

great work. Strangely pleased that my 3200 now qualifies for the classic forum. Can only guess my now car must need a tensioner by now. amongst many other things
