Hi all, Have an annoying ticking sound from the off side front. when accelerating pass parked cars or buildings,, im getting a very loud ticking sound which can best be described as an exhaust manifold blow. Ive inspected the exhaust system with no results of any leaks........

Any ideas??

I had a ticking noise at 1200-1500 rpm only when hot, noticeable when reflected from parked cars / building, maybe similar to yourself?

I did the following:

New variator solenoids - no change

Changed oil to 10w60 - no change

Replaced valve lifters on that bank - noise gone.

Was expensive trial and error but will monitor as not convinced it is last of the noise, next step is engine out to rebuild or do that when the clutch is finished.

My has had the variators replaced recently. I did originally think maybe valve lifters, but lifter noise and exhaust manifold blow are completely different noises, and it sounds exactly like mani blow

I have the exact same thing, not noticeable unless driving in close built up areas, checked the plugs and all ok, although there was oil in no7 plug well, so I'm guessing the oring has failed there. That's my next job lol, I've had every scenario running through my mind from burnt exhaust valve to a cracked head

valve cover gaskets aren’t too bad, just time consuming.
Know what you about expensive sounding noises - argh

My noise comes along when accelerating, doesn’t matter what speed, even when pulling away from stand still. Should be getting the car back today so will be putting up on the ramp again. Will not let this beat me

So.... I got the car back today, and will be investigating the issue tomorrow. Things I will be checking.....

Visual inspection of exhaust mani for cracks
Egr system
Secondary air pump/valve
Cylinder head for cracks
Possible loose plug
Compression test

is there anything else I’m missing??
