Just wondered whether we have anyone who has had one replaced , and what the symptoms were when it was failing, still i have a bit of a lazy throttle , battery reset and an energetic drive sorts it out to a degree but it should be sharper

Never heard of one, maybe drop Mike Roberts a PM.

I suspect after all the problems with the 3200 system, they went belt and braces on this one.

I have seen some reports somewhere having the PedalPot exchanged on the 4200 as well.
Only difference with the 3200GT is a less exited response of the ECU.
Mechanically its the same Bosh unit used on the 3200, only with a different orderingnumber and probably different internal resistorvalues.
We are investigating possibilities converting the PP to contactless and at this moment an old unit is researched by the factory who does the TB's as well.
Problem is to find a solid mechanical method of mounting the new parts in a quite narrow place.

I suspect mine too; sometimes less responsive to pedal actions, recovering after some quick flooring 3 or 4 times (ignition off) thus wheeping the resistortracks.
It is a common faillure on modern cars though, nothing Maserati special.

Cheers Luuk, if you could keep me in the loop that would be great , i will be egtting round to sorting it in the next month when the clutch is done

Ah, sorry, I was thinking along the lines of the 3200 throttle body potentiometer, rather than pedal potentiometer. So does the 4200 not have a potentiometer in the throttle body?

yes it does but its inside the housing

Hi Guys

The throttle potentiometer on my 3200 has a flakey spot just on the idle setting which i have worked round by moving the mounting a little

I am putting together a contactless replacement with a little help from Penny and Giles, who have just released some new contactless technology for this problem, but unfortunately only make the transducer and not direct replacement potentiometers with the springs, body, arm and all.

I suspect i could adapt it once finished to fit the 4200,

Any one interested? The body is machined from solid to make it drop fit in the car, so i would have to get a 4200 pot to make it fit but its possible!!!

Hi Davy, new ones for the 4200 cost 96 quid, so if the replacement is same price or similar I'm sure other 4200 owners would jump at this! Count me in, am interested as I'm having the dead zone in my pedal too!!! ;-)

Hi Davy, I too would be interested in a contactless 4200 TP replacement, subject to price I guess. Cheers, Miles.

can someone tell me if the connection of the yellow and white wires on the block connector related to the PP is also a fix for the 4200 or just for the 3200?
thanks

I will post some pics once i have the finished item in my 3200 and we can plan a 4200 version then, i will also know the cost at that point!!

FD drive-by-wire module is the quickest fix, no lazy behaviour in v aggressive mode. :)

To be fair though, I always felt the same without the mod, felt I needed to do the battery outage and spirited drive to get it 'right' again.

Don't forget after the battery reset to allow 10 mins of idling before driving. This period of 'learning' is required (or so I have been informed a number of times).

Hi MS, Do you happen to know whether the DBW is therefore a throttle potentiometer bypass? Cheers, Miles.
