Thoughts on these cars?

I'd agree with Ewan. There will be better cars. I spent a year looking, lurking and researching. Then another year waiting to find what I wanted. I found it then moved quick and secured one of the best examples I have ever seen. It was well worth the weight. I have had it for over 4 years now and can't see it ever being sold!

This one looks better:

No problem. We can talk cars at a future event. I will be at Gawsworth Classic Car Show on Monday 6th May. And I hope to make it to the Gold Cup Challenge at Oulton Park in August.
Look forward to it, I will be at the Gold Cup!................By-the-way it was Kerala my father went to school!..............He was there with Freddie Mercury only 2 years above him.

Schooling with Farrokh Bulsara? That's amazing. Freddie was born to Parsee parents in Zanzibar (which was later absorbed into Tanganiyka to form the country of Tanzania). His family fled the Zanzibar revolution in 1964 to arrive in England. The band Queen was formed in 1970. The rest is history as the saying goes....

What's with the dials on this one? Not seen those in any other car.

Saw that one earlier and have asked some questions. He has only had it 7 months and last service was a generic garage in Datchet that I can't even find any info about. Looks like a decent enough car but a few unknowns at the moment.

I was thinking of selling the TVR and getting something to replace it circa £10-£15k and a 4200 seemed a good idea. I have been talking to the seller on this one for a while:

Just the CAT D issue on that one.

The one above you just posted a link to was advertised as a 3200 initially!

Seems to be plenty of Maserati choices out there for £10k or not much more ;)

Thank you Sir! Love how a car has been usually researched already on this forum :D.

I would have to end up discounting the CAT D one because of potential resell problems, although it really does look good.

I haven't been considering buying yet because once again I have my M3 I'm not planning on selling yet but I have contacted the owner of the blue/tan one I posted earlier because it said he may consider PX..

Apart from the cloudy early service history, I think it's pretty decent.

I'm thinking with the lower end of the market like we seem to be looking at, there will be some unknowns but it's finding out what unknowns can be lived with or risked.

Agreed, all makes sense.

The 2005 car you posted earlier looks like it might need a clutch now or soon as no details it has been replaced. That is £3k alone to allow.

All these earlier 4200's and QP's are getting so cheap now. However the difference between a good and a bad one can easily be a £5k+ spend to resolve issue quite quickly. Buying a good one is a good starting point. Buying a not so good one is starting to make much less sense.

Always worries me when someone only has a car for 7 months. You always wonder why. Apparently it was bought by the seller for his girlfriend and she never drives it. As he has an Aston then no need for 2 sports cars. Could be perfectly good explanation but 7 months ownership never sounds good to me.

Which makes mine look like an absolute bargain.

That would worry me too, whereas if someone has owned a car for 7 years or so...

You get the idea...

If you can make yours Blu Nettuno or Med Blu and change the interior colour it would tickle me a bit more ;)

Thank you all for the input, has been very informative and given my more confidence about getting into a 4200.

I will still enjoy my M3 for this summer as I've spent 4k (maintenance/respray) in the last year (and a lot more DIY time/effort) to get it into real presentable condition, but when it goes on sale possibly end of this year, I can certainly see me viewing 4200s after that and I'll be keeping a close eye on the market, and this forum until then!

My budget will be around 15k, certainly the bottom end of the market, but that doesn't phase me and I'm not too worried about colour/spec/gearbox, but I am certainly fussy on the maintenance and condition.
I have a beautiful 2003Spyder for sale
