I will second that the ride quality of my XJC was Superb.
Once I had done the head and rebuilt the carbs she was spot on.
I actually put the earlier SU HS8 2 inch carbs on mine.
More power and more emissions.
Sorry Greta but she could embarrass some modern stuff.
All part of the Fun :)

A mate of mine had an XJC a few years ago, he inherited it from his Dad who'd bought it new in '77, he said it was an even better ride than the Silver Shadow he bought afterwards. It looked a minter in the photos he showed me, it was in that typically '70s shade of caramel / fudge brown with a black vinyl roof with Kent alloys - a real beauty. Good ones these days are in the £20k - £40k bracket!

(Apologies for veering off topic!)

I have a problem with the complexity of all modern cars, the parts availability seems to drop off very quickly and you need qualified engineers and equipment to look after them.

I have been looking at older exec cars and it's not until you get into the 70s that the complexity and risk drops significantly. There are a couple of Series 1 & 2 XJ6 saloons around with low mileages and no rot. Even more surprisingly spares are still available for most wear and tear items and even other stuff can be found with a bit of searching. In its day the XJ6 was one of the best luxury cars around something that is still true to this day.

Alternatively a mate has just bought an 1978 S Class Merc with only 40k on the clock, stonking V8 auto with all the toys although if it was me the Draylon upholstery would have to go.

Something like this would do nicely, depending on condition - ermm it's just across the border

I just cannot get excited about classic cars...Not sure why....The oldest I would think about would be an E30 M3 or Intagrale ....After that not much up to 2003ish.

At that price I think I would be crossing the border sharpish.
Looks good in the pictures.
In 73 my father had his painted Heather pink from Sable brown.
It was the 70'S.

It looks a bit too cheap but looks good in the photos, Sable Brown, Heather Pink only in the 70s

Looks very nice indeed.
Worked on a few V12 Jags and no more complicated to work on just more of it.

Always loved the look of the Mk. X, love big sporty saloons, maybe I should get a QP?

Hang on....

MK X or the 420G are lovely things, in fact they were the test bed for much of what the XJ6 was to become

Measured my garage a while back to see if I could squeeze in a MkX / 420G..... the Jag is two inches longer than space available inside! Used to see a dark blue one round here regularly until a couple of years ago, it oozed sinister class from every pore.

Jag was always a notorious rust bucket, especially up in the North West where it mostly just rained.....

Didn't the Kray Twins have a Mk10.
My father had a 420G at one point and a driver too.
I had an exciting childhood at times.

Yes, I think it was black with a red interior. Brian Epstein had one but didn't keep it very long, he replaced it with an S3 Bentley saloon.
