Got to admit. I've been keeping an eye out myself, I think they may bottom at circa 30k miles for 20-22k, generally around 24/25 now, but an XF is a fair bit less...

My daughter says I'm not old enough to have a Jag... it sounds silly, but I agree with her... reading and viewing reviews, no one says get a Ghibli over a Merc/BMW/Audi... but I still want one over any of those?!?!
I haven't investigated the servicing... any info welcomed...

I've seen sub 25k miles for £24k...

Just check those front strut tops, they have been known to crack. Other than that, get on with it I say.

I need to have a proper look at one to compare with the QPV1 I recently saw.
I have a feeling the Ghibli might win

Struts should have been done on recall if it's an early one so as Matt says do check it along with the numerous other recalls that they had in 14/15. 16 onwards the strut issue had been solved with a redesign.

Had one as a loaner when my petrol Ghibli was in for service. Couldn't wait to get back in to my one to be honest so I personally wouldn't buy one.

However the fit and finish in all Ghibli's is fine and it's certainly different from the normal crowd.

I think the Ghibli is the better car of the two. Not too big but still has a comfortably large interior, boot is good and a ski hatch is very useful, not just for skis but it's amazing how often I used the ski hatch in my previous cars to carry various DIY bits and bobs.

Any reason I shouldn't?

It depends on how quickly you turn over your cars. I wouldn't be rushing into diesel ownership, I think there is big backlash against diesels coming; we could see some pretty draconian legislation which will cause their values to plummet. If you only want to keep it for a few years then you are probably safe, but if you are looking for a long term keeper it will be more of a risk.

They are now going through the auctions at 16-18k making them a total bargain daily driver. Do it.

Annual servicing on the Dieseasal Ghibli making them slightly more expensive to run than the 2 year servicing on the Petrol but check that before diving in and get a quote from a main dealer.

I had one for a short while.

I preferred it to the similar age QP.

However from driving a GTS and getting into the Ghibli it felt very boring.

The sound of the diesel is pants. You push the supposed sport button and it gives a pretty poor fake rumble.

But I thought it drove well.

Can’t compare it with a Jag or Merc or similar as I have never owned or driven one.

Personally I just bought it to be different.

Would I get one again? Perhaps. But it would be the petrol for a bit more excitement.

Good annalasis from Hoyin.....They will never pulled your heart string like a GTS or old QP as that's not the type of car they are. for me it's every day car that looks good outside and in, but will never get you on a Sunday for a blast on your fav road.

A petrol one would, especially with an exhaust mod or two. It’s an excellent car and one that I enjoyed owning. Petrol will cost 23-25k though which tells you something.

Mine is a daily, about to hit 80k miles. No massive issues (warping discs and headlight washers are the only things I can think of). I think its a great daily driver. The sound isnt great admittedly but with sport mode its decent enough. Service costs at main dealer are ridiculous for what they are (VM Motori diesel engine). Just paid £890 for a service (air, oil, diesel filters, brake fluid and oil change).
Also note spare parts are jokingly expensive, £1032 for a pair of headlight washers for example!
Check if its a Euro V or Euro VI. The Euro VI should be exempt from most anti diesel hysteria.

MY QP has evolved to a daily driver but I only do 5000 miles pa. or so
It is about to reach 70,000miles hence my thoughts on a possible replacement. My thinking being if I get a low mileage jobby that may well be the last one I own as I reach a certain age.

I use my petrol Ghibli as a daily driver. No real issues. Just about to come up to 50k miles and still puts a smile on my face.

In contrast to Andy I find it’s great for a Sunday blast as well as the more mundane plod into the office.
