Thinking about a GTS...

Hi, just thought I'd stick this here and say hi. I think I have fallen in love with the Gran Turismo. Not hard, I know...
I've been reading a lot here over xmas - tons of incredibly useful information so thank you to everybody who posts.
It'll take a while to do this - I need to move on two cars to be able to afford the right Maserati, but I'm learning a lot in the meantime.
Fortunately I'm less than 30 minutes from Autoshield and have already briefly chatted to Marios, plus I know an ex-Maser owner who used to use AS. To me that's the key with cars - knowing there's somebody local who knows them inside out. This also means I'm maybe 45 minutes from Mr Grace, which could be useful!
I think I've narrowed it down to a post '62 GTS with the ZF gearbox.
Blown my 20k budget before I've even started but the facelift auto means better seats, blips on downshifts and no clutch to worry about although looks-wise I think I prefer the twin exhausts and less aggressive front end of the original 2007 design.
Anyway, hello, and please accept my apologies for the dumb questions that may appear from time to time! Andy :)

A fine choice! I’d say that any 4.7 GranTurismo S Auto (or MC Auto Shift) will fit the bill. And a car from the 09-12 period will have the front end look you prefer. There’s nothing wrong with the seats in those cars, so don’t discount them (and they are cheaper). Not that I’d put you off a newer version either, as they are even better - just at a higher price.

Welcome you can't go wrong with a GTS, they are stonkingly good value compared to any alternative. You won't go far wrong with Dicky & Marios in your corner and as shown on other threads both will give you solid impartial and free advice.

Welcome. Go for a facelift if you can stretch to it . The early GTS s are starting to look very dated in my opinion . The interior on the facelifts is far superior and the prices are starting to get down to the low £30s . Go for a private sale and get it inspected first .

Thanks for the welcome guys. It’s going to be a while before this happens but it Is. Going. To. Happen. I think the facelift is the sensible option - more expensive initially but likely to hold its value better, plus all the updates - seats, gearbox etc do add up to quite a difference. Cheers, Andy

Biased of course but I’d go with a late (as late as possible before the facelift) MC auto..

MC auto shift box, much nicer “wavy” design seats all without the Japanese aftermarket front bumper ala’ facelift.

Good call and great value. Only has MC Autoshift if it has the optional Sport Pack fitted.

The gearbox names seem designed to confuse.
MC Autoshift is the ZF slusher and MC Shift is the rear mounted auto-manual... I think... I'm assuming the MC Shift can be spotted due to missing gearlever?
That's an interesting option because they're late enough to miss the variator thing but get different seats and the classier (IMHO) exterior.
Are those seats more supportive than the early/original ones?

seats are certainly better for taller people as the previous backs are quite short.

The newer front seats are also thinner, I think, which provides an inch or so of extra rear legroom.

Thinking about a GTS is, by the way, an excellent way to while away the time. Surpassed only by driving one. Happy hunting!

The 12MY seats are slightly comfier than the 09-11MY ones, but not as supportive and bucket-shaped as the 13MY onwards seats.

Bump :)
Slight mission creep has occurred. I think I may have banged my head at some point recently.

2014 MC Cabrio in Blu Sofisticato. Happy boy. Silly but happy. Next stop Marios to make me cry.

Thank you! Trying to get time to get it to Marios @Autoshield this week for a look over.
The advice on here about always getting an inspection, I'm doing it in the right order aren't I?
Plan is a service, geo if it needs it (had 3.5k spent on susp last year), and most importantly rustproofing. I've had the underbonnet covers off and got as close to wishbone mounting points as I can get without wheels off and it 'looks' pretty good. We shall see...

That is stunning. Well done on your obviously very good 'Man Maths' !
More pics please.
Is that full bianco pregiato interior or do you have Alcantara inserts?
