Is anyone on here familiar with what’s been happening recently with watch prices, or know of any good sites?

I’ve descended into the dark side and am wearing an Apple Watch all the time now, so am half-toying with selling this...

At auction the prices are crazy. Way over estimates. Chrono24 is a good place to get an idea of prices or where the market is. Rolex announced price increases in Jan, I think 6% and are predicted to announce another few % later this year so that’s pushed up 2nd hand prices a bit depending, obviously some models more than others.

Well that puts the rises on mine into perspective! Shame I'm not really into Rolexes (Rolexii? Rolexi?)

Jolly good!

If you can get a Rolex Sports / Professional watch from a dealer you can pretty much make a few k the minute you walk out of the shop. The waiting list and the whole ‘sorry you can’t have a Daytona unless you’ve previously bought xxx’ mean that the 2nd hand market is very buoyant. The dealers are also taking the tags and protectors off to prevent people selling ‘new with tags’.
Looks like that Daytona was a good investment!

Just checked my Submariner on Chrono24. Nowhere like the recent jump in values of the Daytona, but still up threefold from when I bought it about 10 years ago, so no complaints.

If you had sold your GS for 40k in 2010 and bought 5 Daytonas, you could sell 1 Daytona now and replace that GS and buy a GT, and still have 100k in vintage Daytonas.

I sold my 6.0 lt. Diablo around that time for about £80k (from memory), and that would now be around £250k. Oh well. Can’t win ‘em all!

Chrono24 prices can be a little optimistic, although Daytonas have undoubtedly gone through the roof.

You could always try Watchfinder for a quote. Friends tell me their offers for sought after, easy to sell, watches are pretty good.

Just be aware they are owned by Compagnie Financière Richemont SA , the owners of a number of luxury watch brands. One of the first things they did was a nice Cartier sale, huge discounts, which didn’t do much for some of the sellers on there.
