No idea mate. However, given the time it takes by very skilled people to complete I wouldn’t have thought it’s too outrageous.

Seem to remember that was the rough cost of having my Sea Master serviced at Omega if that helps at all.

Some advice chaps please.
I've just been quoted by Beards in Cheltenham for a service and repair for a Zenith Elte (slimline). Not many 'complications' merely date.
£400 and eight to ten weeks ETA. They state that's a full strip down and any parts replaced with OEM parts.
Does that seem about standard?
Thanks
Robin
That's comparable to what I pay for the general servicing of my Rolex and Breitling watches, via Watches of Switzerland, and assume it'd be similar for Zenith.

Thanks all. I'm reassured. Beards are probably the most reputable for a good distance around here. Not many with the skills and dexterity doing this now together with reassurance of OEM parts.

Yes, about right. If you want a good alternative LWR in Hatton Garden. They'll send you an insured postal box (up to £25k), send photos and detailed reports of arrival and then quote you.
Once it's done, they'll notify you of dispatch and you get a free case.

Bloody good service IME. For batteries and re-sealing only they are actually cheaper than Timpsons and no slower (as Timpsons need to send stuff at 100m away)

I endorse this product or service.

If a main dealer can charge £1000+ to service a Maserati £400 for an expert to service a watch doesnt sound extortionate

My daily watch is a Rolex Explorer I. Love it, as it is simple, bullet proof as a tank, waterproof as a submarine. Only problem is I keep cracking crystals (plastic , not sapphire). Does anyone know of a guard, or protector that goes over the crystal ? I wear it in a very harsh environment, and it is the only watch that comes close to taking the punishment. Thanks..

Surely you could get a sapphire glass? Very surprised that it's both bullet proof, water proof and has a plastic glass? Is that original?

Catman, it's an early model (mid 60's), 34mm and pre sapphire, so the case is different than later models. I have used double thick polycarbonate crystals in the past, but they are hard to find now. The replacements I have been able to source are getting old and brittle. Any ideas?

Out of interest, is your watch a 1016? Kudos for wearing it as originally intended, I’m not sure many owners would. It’s a lovely watch, much nicer than the modern equivalents IMHO.

Another reason for having plexi rather than sapphire is that next time you smash it, at least you won’t need a full service to clean out all the glass fragments .

Happily just scored a Cartier Panthere on Catawiki. Box and papers, needs some refurb (IMHO) Been after one for some time to match Mrs C's but they are rather rare these days.

Howard and Hilda, here we are !
