So yesterday thought id take my italian mistress to a works family party at Woburn. First event iv ever said i wont drink, and il drive. Girlfriend got out the car and said she could hear a hissing. Investigation found a cut in the sidewall, which must have just happened on the way to the field. No spare, and had to pay to be recovered, despite having breakdown cover, as i didnt have a spare or get you home foam. Shouldnt have admitted that really, but im too honest. Tyres are only 2 weeks old, and done <1800 miles.

On the plus side, used it as a sign that im obviously not meant to drive to such events, and got smashed up instead.

For the sake of a tenner, it’s always sensible to have a can of tyre foam in the boot of every car, so at least you can limp home (or to the nearest tyre centre).

On the upside, with driving duties over, at least you could have a few drinks while you waited to be collected.

Second that.

My issue with 'get you home foam' is that from what iv heard, does it not make a right mess of the wheel, and then cost you extra at the tyre place because they need to remove it?
I did wonder about driving home, and stopping every few miles to put air in it, as had the tyre inflator still in the boot from my Nurbugring trip, but thought that if I damaged the wheel doing that, it would be a whole lot more than £100, which is what the truck cost me. Also, the the tyre was cut in the sidewall, so would tyre foam have worked?

My understanding with the foam as well and I dont think a cut in the sidewall is going to work - it's for a temporary tread seal

Well there is always the Maserati supplied compressor with the gunk can, got to love the fact that it doesn't fit the Aux socket in the cabin, just the one in the boot next to the battery, ok so not a biggy except that the cable then the cable will not let it reach either front tyre! Go figure...

correct, doesn't always work and creates a big mess that has to be scraped/cleaned off the inside of rim, as Scaf mentioned worth having a tyre repair strips kit and small 12volt air pump, however, nothing would worked on sidewall damage anyway

I know Maserati's are a bit specialist but I've found the AA use the low loaders as a very last resort these days

2 breakdowns in Vans and both times they've spent 2-3 hours sourcing and fitting new parts, last thursday a split flexi brake hose on my ducato , 20m on the phone, an hour to get it and an hour to fit it , permanent repair for a £20 pipe cost

AA worth every penny

Use slime or Sp'air. Water soluble. Stops punctures before you lose air and I've never had anything other than grumbles from the tyre places.

Just out for a gentle drive, when I noticed that the temperature was climbing, pulled over and I think a hose has split.
Now safely home for the diagnosis.
The breakdown chap was a good lad. He recommended Roose Motorsports for silicone hoses, which are far better than standard. I've sent them an enquiry so we'll see what comes of it.

Roose do individual hoses, or kits/sets. From what I've heard their hoses are good.

Oh dear. Hope it's a straight forward fix. Maybe you should try harder than a 'gentle drive'!
