Try Castrol R; it may not shift the wax but should guarantee entry to VSCC meets when they restart - you'll smell lovely ;)

But only if you get it hot enough; maybe pop a bumble bee in a tin can and strap it to your ear for authenticity!

Well as expected I'm in line for another pay freeze next year as a public sector worker.

So that works out as one 2% rise since the last freeze in 2008. This despite all front line staff working throughout the pandemic and the loss of over 50 staff to Covid.

So say you earned £50k in 2008 you now earn £51k? No cost of living increase? No years of service increase? Nothing in 12 years?

Yes... in fact worse as my pension contributions were increased by £250 pcm and I have 7 years added on to my retirement age as well (and less pension)... so probably have the same take home wage as I did in 2004.

Don't believe Gov hype that us Civil Servants have this and that and a gold plated pension... the words are just there to sway public opinion to supporting the next rounds of cuts in that profession.

Oh and MPs wage rise is still going ahead BTW.

Following on from the crash involving Alex and his fiancée, the insurers have assessed the car and written it off (not surprising). Just wondering if anyone is selling a smallish relatively sporty car at the moment suitable for a 25year old and his 23 year old lady? Audi A1, Boxter, later model MX5 etc. £6-8 k. If you are PM me details for consideration please. Nothing back from Essex plod about the ghost Uber driver that fled the scene yet!

About the same as the private sector then. I earn what I did in 2005 but at least the company you worked for for years didn’t go bust and take a load of your pension with it

So to sum up - Covid and the economic fallout is pretty much a disaster all round, public, private, retired or otherwise.
I'm earning bugger all. Oil and gas has taken a real pounding with close to a 40% contraction. Travel is not feasible so I'm earning nothing and likely that way for a while.
Conjuring up a new career is a little difficult just now?
But onwards and upwards eh?!

You are dead right, many are complaining that theIr income has reduced, but they still have some income, even though It is reduced. But there are many in the UK that can not work from home, are not entitled to furlough, or for various reasons have absolutely no income at all, purely due to this pandemic.

Bugger all to do with COVID in my case. Only saving grace at the moment is I do a job that’s considered essential

I think there are many of us 'holding on' and it's only natural to fight your own corner. Nothing wrong with that.
Corporation tax will go up, CGT will go up/change. Inheritance taxes will change, IR35 will strip out incentives for many self employed, including doctors, dentists, medical professionals, computing professionals, engineers etc.
Hence why I agree with Sunak to reduce overseas aid. We need the money here just now, although I agree with targeted support abroad.

A very good morning to all........Tier day....At least the business will have an understanding of what pubs etc will be able to open and plan volume accordingly. We have started deliveries the last two days and the latest customer projection was 50% down and projection was only given to us last last Friday. Businesses are nervous about what tier they will be in me thinks.

Good morning everyone, Sunak was depressing yesterday but he's only the messenger. The last 8 months at LGW have been an obvious sign of what's to come. The average November day sees around 600 flights, today 26. These vaccines can't come quick enough.

Morning, all.

Sorry to read the woes of those struggling. These are ****** up times, but I hope in some strange way the shared interests of this forum (and I'm pretty sure there are some shared interests that extend beyond global flu viruses and Brexit... if in doubt read the banner) help provide some light relief.

Today just buggering on again. I've managed to clear a couple of chunks of time from my diary so I can do something other than be on calls. One strange symptom of long-COVID is that it causes many, many people to have far more calls and meetings than they ever had before, to the extent that you have to actually make an appointment to phone someone up. Bizarre.

Stay well, all. Be groovy.

PS - it's still dark!

Quite right, bruv. The Greta in me (which, I should note, is a massive hypocrite) would like to see fewer flights, but more than 26!
