Morning all. Office today.

A call at 10am, then not much else on. Think I'll spend most of the day on AutoTrader deciding what new car to buy and then changing my mind 10 times.

Current shortlist is as follows:

Mercedes S Class
Mercedes E Class
Mercedes CLS
BMW 640 Grand Coupe

All are the 3 litre TT diesel versions, no older than 4 years old.
All will receive a aftermarket tuning box on purchase so they have 'adequate' power. :D

Don't like the look of Audi's so they're out. Don't think I've missed anything. Maser Ghibli and QP's infotainment is out of the Ark so have discounted them even though they look good.
As it's going to be a work horse I want all the mod cons.

Morning folks, back to Hackney to finish the reconstruction job. later I'm up to Hull again! one of the repairs we did last week in appalling weather has not held so I've to re-do it in the morning before returning to Bangor and Llandudnowfestiinioggggvellin.

Have fun all...
You need three Newtons, my friend.

That way you could also spread the load a bit for the kayak tour de France.

I had a CLS, loved the look but not the reliability, how do you feel about the Jaguar XJ for something less German?

I've got a XFS at the moment. And although it does everything well. It's just a bit, well, meh!
And I now hate touch screens!

Never had any reliability issues with any of my Merc's.

Great list Mark….Saw the latest CLS on the road last week and it looked really good. Surprised me as don’t see many of the latest models. Like you I do not like touch screen. Dirty figures all over it. Whoever put them in cars needs a pull through with a Christmas tree. There was nowt wrong with buttons.

Love the XJ....great VFM in my opinion. A large comfy well specd sports saloon with a 500bhp supercharged V8 for under £20k.

I'm currently trying to justify keeping mine although I'm not going to use it very much any more. Just changed the wife's car and my work car is going so been thinking I should roll 3 cars into 2 meaning the XJL might need to go

It is also amazingly fuel efficient. I average 22-24 mpg as don't do loads of long journeys and can get 30mpg on a run. It is no frugal 40mpg diesel though!

Lightning throttle response though and love that engine. Not much beats it off the line from a standing start. Just stamp on the loud peddle and it just takes off and doesn't stop. Rare too.

I have had Jaguar XJ diesels since 2006 and on my 6th or it is my 7th !! I don’t even look at other cars when I change. big - fast - luxurious - and surprisingly economical. Easy +40mph on a fast motorway run and about 36mpg round town. Note if you are gentle.
There are not that many on the road so it’s a bit exclusive in that regard, but great value.

Unless you get the “L” model, they are a tad cramped in the back for such a big car, but I sit in the front so it’s never bothered me :D

My current one is a late 2019 XJ150 which has an amazing interior including diamond stitched leather.

I love it

I like the 840 because you don’t see many of them, I’m sure driving and electronic aid wise there is not much in it, BMW being a bit more sporty if any.

I'm with Tallman. From that list I'd go for the 840, purely on rarity.
But of course, in reality, I'd have an Autobiography Range Rover.

Bit of a typo in my original post. I meant 640. 840 is out of my budget for now. Although the price is dropping like a stone so maybe in a couple of years.

Morning, all. Definitely crisper but sunny and bright. Been a helluva busy week so far. Schedule today is looking quieter, mercifully.
