The good morning thread

Well I worked in the private sector for 36 years and for the last 7 years of my career I didnt get a single pay rise. Reason, because I was seen as an "annomally" and in the age of transparent salaries, those of us who fell into this position (through no fault of their own by the way) were heavily penalised. This ultimately flowed through to my pension now. So its not just the civil service who get shafted, so do many in the private sector to.

I haven't had a pay raise in 7 years either. But as I'm self employed, I suppose I can't really blame the government for failing to bestow regular increases on me. It has been a bit of an irritant that government workers and furloughees have been mostly insulated from the economic impact of the pandemic, the self-employed have been screwed, but again, I'm not sure that I really expect the taxpayer to bail me out.

I suspect it will be early summer before we get to a point where enough people are vaccinated to effectively turn society back on; and presently no one is sure how long they will last as 'effective', so we could be going round and round for some time yet.

I thought we had confined this stuff to a single thread, but it keeps erupting as a 'second wave' elsewhere in the forum... (Sorry for bringing it up!)

Sort of depends on if you've contributed in the way in which you're expected to. I certainly make no judgements on any case, but I think if you've paid all your tax and NI, you should probably entitled to some help

I got help here in France as a self employed individual and was thankful for it but I decided to be totally honest right from the start.
I have benefited from the solidarity fund and also hurting myself here the health fund is second to none and technically I'm an immigrant here.

Eeeerm... Morning? All,

kind of missed the boat today as too much on. Had to get the Mas out of the garage, replace a window winder on Alex’s camper, adjust the belts on the post lift. All done in time for Nick turning up with the grand children so I could change the brake fluid and front pads on their Kuga. Got that done about 3pm to give me about an hour playing with the kids.

Have fun all...

Good morning all...Monday....Welsh minister is letting us know what tougher lockdown measures will come into place Friday. I can see tougher restrictions on hospitality which is going to hurt my industry but fully understand. Cannot see me needed the agency I have booked for our peak week now.

I'm sure you could have squeezed in a bit more graft there, Newton.

Morning, all. Today is Monday and it's dark with a light morning mist. Didn't affect my commute much, though; the traffic through the house was pretty light.

Have a fine, fabulous day, the lot of you.

Stay Safe all.

Morning all more madness this week as the stores re-open tomorrow but for how long is the question.

Interesting chat with my old boss who is now in Melbourne asking if I fancied popping over for 6 months and helping her out, not sure the family would be keen and it's too far for a weekly commute especially the way air travel is at present

Morning all. Todays conference call is with Indonesia. Which is a new one. Will hopefully result in another investor on board.
The pre-chat communications have been positive thus far.

Then it's a load of invoicing to be done. Boring but essential to pay the bills!

I am taking a rest from work this week, will still need to keep in touch of course but will allow me to recharge my batteries a bit.

So a few jobs like putting up the Christmas lights, tidy the garage a bit and find some essential journeys so I get the car out.

A long walk this afternoon with Mrs Scaf will be nice.

Enjoy your days

Morning all.

Just looked out the window and all the lights are off in the secondary school across the way and no cars in the car park. Hmm wonder if it’s COVID related. For a moment I thought it was a Sunday again!

I've been trying to do that for weeks.

Christmas this year will be a total shut down for me. Haven't had more than a day or two off since October last year!

On a WhatsApp group with a group of mates, one has only worked 2 months this year! he's been furloughed but work has paid the rest of his salary.
Reckons he'll go back in March!!!
