Morning,

Spent yesterday in the office for the first time since the end of May. Won't be doing that again until I get this boot off. So that's at least another couple of weeks WFH for me.

Cleaning the Alfa Spider today for an Alfa breakfast meeting tomorrow at Howden. Will see whether my driver will take us out for a spin first.

Have a great day all

Morning all, dancing cars first as the Frankenvan is going in the garden to free the post lift to take the VW camper to be recommissioned and made ready for summer use. Looking forward to working on such a simple vehicle. That said it has (1979) an early version of an Data port, apparently since 1971 VWs were fitted with one that allowed diagnostics on up to 90 parameters! All well before CAN-BUS tech was thought of. All cars had a punch card build sheet that allowed geometry setup, lights to be checked and even compression tests based on the load on the starter motor!

Amazing stuff.

Have fun all...

Morning all fine day today again
Off to near Leyburn area to visit a friends new Caravan - all singing and dancing apparently
It is certainly in a beautiful area. Looking forward to it.
On another note this site is bookmarked as a favourite for me but when I clicked on it I was getting site unavailable. All yesterday so I assumed the chaps were working on it.
Today I started afresh and used Google and here I am.................. strange

There are some lovely roads for a spirited drive around Leyburn. One of my favourite places around here.

The pork pies are great.

EOS M3 and an adapter to allow me to use the EOS-S zoom I have. It's a lot lighter, smaller and seems to be taking far better photos

C

I’m pleased you like it. I just replaced a Sony of some kind with a Lumix TZ220, which is proving far more usable, intuitive and with better quality pictures.

So the day so far went like this:

Mas out the garage, delivered to the Outlaws (insurance agreed it can be on the road there till the end of the month!)

To Motex with Alex to buy fluids for the VW

Raise the rolller shutter and repair and fit the box over the top

Clear space in the garden, manually wind down the Frankenvan off the post lift! push the van out of the garage and manoeuvre into the garden through said shutter... Catch our breath!

Push the VW out of the borrowed garage opposite, turn it 180 degrees and align it for the lift, figure the lifting points and manually raise it about a foot off the ground so we can drop the wheels off.

Get on the crawler and assess what he bought!

Yep it was still a bargain :)

Remove air-box, carb, heat exchanger hoses etc. figure it had a recent engine rebuild :) annotate cylinder numbers and firing order on the firewall for future reference :) configure the new dizzy cap and HT leads, find the wiring over the engine is toasted!

Retire to the dining table with the carb, rebuild kit and a large tin of carb cleaner and rebuild the Solex Type 34 PICT 3 whilst Alex watched the end of the footy.

Realise we were both too knackered to do anything else on the car this evening, get cleaned up and have dinner.

Spend the evening fettling the roller shutter so it runs perfectly on the remotes :D

Give it best for the evening... Head over here!

Got the fun of replacing the fuel lines with E10 compliant (ethanol inclusive fuel) lines as although they look to have been replaced in 2010 during the restoration they are rotten!

So tomorrow will be:

Replace fuel lines (drain tank first), Refit carb, new plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm (has electronic ignition already), leads, oil change, air box and hot pipes back on (new). Fit charged battery including bolting it down as it was free to migrate around the bay!!!

Tune said rebuilt carb as best I can...

Raise it about another 18 inches on the lift, replace all the gear linkages and bushes.

Wheels off, 5 lt brake flush and asses the brakes/make them work or figure what needs replacing.

Convince Alex he wants to sort the wiring over the engine and other bits.

Pre-MOT check everything!

Oh yes, I have to find a missing vacuum hose for the carb as the low rev dosing diaphram won't do anything with the screw that is presently blocking it!

Really glad you are making me feel knackered before I go to sleep, I’m aiming for 40-50 miles on bike but feel the heat may kill it, unless I set off now....
