UK new car sales are normally in excess of 2m/year so the National Grid has just 9 years left to accommodate an increased load of that magnitude, and the SMMT figures suggest that a new Nio at c£60k is not going be affordable for the average buyer. Yes I know that increased volumes will (or at least should) bring the price down, but I doubt that will be sufficient for everyone to jump in.

I think that’s a much more fundamental problem than most people realise that you’ve hit there. When a “cheap” EV is still £30k, what is actually happening is that this righteous movement is pricing out those on lower incomes that really do rely on their car for work, parenting etc etc. It’s always the lower income families that are hit hardest when some government decides to make a significant change that renders existing machines and tech redundant. Most of us are lucky, we will be able to pick up an EV on lease or whatever and keep our classics for Sunday drives. But someone who relies on a £149 a month Corsa to get to work, will they be so lucky?

I dunno. By the time it matters, there will be cheaper used compliant cars available. Perhaps this is mean that we will go back to the days where a cheap car is a used car. With the potential environmental benefits there in.

This is also depressing from BMW. It may actually make you want to throw up.
Ultimate driving machine seems not to be too pc with the current management......

Embarrassing in my eyes. Lightning McQueen much.

Im just old school. An ICE is a heart, a soul. Electric, yes yes useful and has a place. But I will never in my life get excited over an electric car.

Guy on my fb just posted this week his Tesla loaner car, the one that does that flappy door wing flashy light thing, flaps it’s doors. He posted a vid and was so excited. A bit of me died and I felt, deflated.

I got my GT out the garage yesterday purely so I could drill the floor and fit a ground anchor. A 10 second operation and then again to put it back. And I still enjoyed just starting the thing. It growled.

There’s a reason Mother Nature herself gives the scary animals a loud noise, those lions just wouldn’t cut it if they squeaked like a dolphin
