The boat thread - an even shorter road to financial ruin?

By “popular” demand!

Subject to sea trial and hull inspection on Tuesday, this is what I am likely to buy (although I’m also weighing up a 1998 Cranchi Smeraldo 37). It’s a 34’ Gobbi 335 SC, but with a swim platform added (effectively making it a 345SC).

It was a freshwater boat its whole life until June this year when it was thoroughly overhauled - engines, drives, anti-fouling, new helm electronics, new cockpit and deck cushions, salon and cabin refit - and then brought down the Algarve. It’s in very nice condition other than a couple of scratches on the blue stripe which is a vinyl wrap, so an easy fix. The twin Volvo Penta Diesel engines show less than 500 hours of run time in 21 years, and run incredibly sweetly at idle. They are good for 460hp. It will cruise at 25mph and top out at around 35mph.

We will see how it goes on Tuesday….
Go for it. You live in the right place for that sort of thing. A few of my friends up here keep saling boats on the west coast but where you are I would go with a power boat.

What regiment was he in and on what part of the route, I have access to the full details of the funeral including all routes and timings and who did what, every detail is listed and mapped.
Only officers seemed to be named though.

I don't know , I assumed all the sailors marched the whole route , he was only 18 , hadn't been in the navy long

He had a TIA about 12 months ago and now has dementia , IIRC he told me he was at the back and all the pictures are taken from the front so he's just a blur in the background in all the pictures they've found.

Well, sea trial was very good and hull inspection revealed only some minor jobs to be done, so after a little further negotiation, the boat is mine. Hopefully will have the keys before the weekend. Very excited and looking forward to making it even better over the coming winter months here.

At least you’re doing it the right way.
Motoring from A to B,
That sails and ropes malarkey is from A to somewhere with a lot of zig zagging all over the shop.

First boat. Shetland Family 4 "Evelyn Jane" with Yamaha 50hp 2-stroke with electric start!
Great boat and great fun with a young family.

I had something similar when my kids were young, used mostly on the Thames and occasionally the canals.

Fond memories and cost me next to nothing

My first boat was a Zodiac GT MK2 inflatable with a Yamaha 15 HP two stroke all fitted into the boot of the car.
Learnt to water-ski with it and took it all over Europe.

Second boat a 14 foot Shakespeare with a 80 HP Mercury two stroke named that one Master Card.

Third one was a 16 foot Glastron with a 140 HP Suzuki two stroke which was bullet proof.

The last one for me was a Four Winns 18 foot with a 225 HP Volvo Penta V6 fuel injected inboard four stroke.
Bow rider with bimini top and bathing platform.
Loved that boat and for my kids growing up was fantastic.
As soon as they started driving they lost interest and no more boats.
My dream boat.
