I completely realise this will trigger the mandatory **** taking. Ra ra here here blah blah and all that (to confirm I’m a very working class Northerner!)

However I have to admit to having an interest in the old, history and objects.

So how’s about showcasing your interesting old objects? I mean we drive Maserati’s so there’s gotta be a touch of ‘class’ within us all right?

Todays find for me, a very old stage coach journey flyer from the Horse and Griffin in Whitby (still open to this day).

A 14 day journey to London. 1794. “All last wills should be made before departure”!

Rene Lalique 1920s/1930s car mascots for me...

Two examples from my former pre-divorce collection here - Tete de Paon (Peacock Head), these would have been mounted as a radiator cap and lit from below sometimes the lamp connected to the dynamo so got brighter the faster you went! Very expensive and fashionable car accessory in the day. Gradually rebuilding the full collection of 29 mascots with several variants of many to also acquire. 98605

That’ll be the Lalique of the glass expertise then? Very nice!

From my cellar, Chateau Laroze 1924, provenance Aalholm Castle cellar in Denmark.
I did try various vintages of it back when we sold the castle cellar in I think 1989/1990.

How much does a bottle of something like that go for?
Somewhat better than the M&S tipple I’m currently drinking!

I absolutely love those. The mascots at the Schlumpf collection are very interesting.

Been there quite a few years back , great days out ......................turns out the brothers were a right pair of rogues
Well the French government certainly got their moneys worth when they pocketed the entire collection in lieu of tax!

Wondering if I actually own just about anything that's as old as I am. I have an old Rolex, but I don't like it very much.

There's a tantalus that my father made out of an old oak chest. I think that's about it...

Were you advised to prepare your will beforehand?
No, I was 18, had just joined Christie’s wine department and smashed that particular bottle whilst bringing it to the cellar. It was in a plastic sleeve to protect the label so the then director poured the remains through a coffee filter and siv and handed the glass to me.
What a Gentleman!
I was absolutely distraught but he promptly told me to forget all about it.
I seem to remember the other 2 identical bottles sold for £4000 each back then in 1988. Dread to think what they’re worth now!

Wow, so you tracked the same bottle down? What an unusual start to your career, did you have a disaster with your A levels or had you decided to follow someone’s advice about doing something interesting with your life? I am being nosey!

Top man!

I have some 1970 port and it's bloody gorgeous. Down to the last bottle from a full case. So far I haven't dropped any, despite enthusiastic and heroic consumption. Replenishment will be a costly business.

Not actually that much, £200-300 perhaps. It’s not the age of a wine that determines value, it’s the quality (which Chateau/Domaine) the vintage and to some extent the rarity/limited production.
I have wines that a worth far more but are young.
Let me put it this way;
If you bought a Skoda back in 1987 it wouldn’t be worth much now - but had you bought an F40 in 1987.. you’d be quids in

Mrs Catman..?

Do you hear that creaking noise? That's what thin ice sounds like. If you're very lucky I'll never told her you said that ;)
