Teenage Lusts

Calm down this is not what most of you are thinking.

Phils little French hotties thread got me thinking of those cars that I lusted after in my teenage years, not the poster showgirls bought from the local Athena shop but the more normal mass produced stuff.

For me my teenage years were focussed on the 5 letter word Turbo and the very first mass produced road cars that I lusted after were the original Saab 99 Turbo and the Renault 18 Turbo both these models were sporty variants of boring boxes but the addition of that word Turbo made all the difference. I have never owned either but I have driven easy versions of both and the word LAG comes to mind, the time between pressing the throttle and the power arriving is just senseless in the days. People talk about turbo lag on Delta Integrales, Montego Turbos etc. from the 90s and yes there is a hesitancy but nothing like the turbos from the late 70s it was almost if Postman Pat was delivering the request by snail mail.

So come on we have a fair spread of ages in this forum so I suspect we have a fair spread of teenage lusts, what's yours?

Escort cossie
I thought the celica from 00-05 was, and probably still is one of the prettiest cars of that decade and still have a soft spot today despite never owning one.
Skyline r34 (yes gt2 generation here)
Porsche whale tail 911

Council estate kid in the late 90s and early 00s here lol, may show in my car lusts that arent the poster cars of the time.

Was the 1964 Cadillac Convertible for me, I just lied the chisel-edged styling, stilled though I've migrated my Yank Tank desires to the 1961 Coupe now....

From what I remember most of these appearing on council estates in the 90s were nicked

I think I’ve covered this off on the SM Motorbike thread: Ducati 900 Or the unobtainable Hesketh.

Not wrong there. I grew up in a ****hole area and there were quite a few cars being wired or on screw driver startup. The speed and risks the drivers took makes me shudder now I'm older.

My uncle's Mk 1 Golf GTI - black with red patterns on the black seats. He used to tear around Angelsey with my cousin, brother and me in the car. One stretch was always that "Can he hit the ton down that road?" He'd had it from new and sold it in 2004 with 150k on the clock for £5k. 2 years before I got my licence (I was a bit late getting behind the wheel).

My dad briefly had one of these, and I hated it at the time because I didn't like not having a door of my own to the seat:

Fell in love with the idea of one a few years later.

And then there was one of these that I really wanted:

And then the one that I was able to realise as my first car:

it was a 150hp low pressure turbo Design Edition, so it has Viggen wheels, silver trim where others would have black plastic, and the leather is all two-tone navy and black. Lottie doesn't drive at the moment and needs a bit of restoration, but I'm not getting rid of her.

Debbie Harry, Kim Wilde and one of these...

Also had a phase of wanting a proper Jaaaag in my late teens, it took me thirty odd years before I scratched that itch by buying this early S2 XJ6 4.2 manual....

Surprised it's taken 10 posts - but get your hands of Debbie :)
I believe Kim is already spoken for too.
Own up 'GC' you know who you are!

My, er, 'admiration' of Debs was emboldened when at the age of thirteen someone showed me some photos of her taken when she was part of the Warhol crowd, years before she was in Blondie! By 1978 she was perfection on legs.... :p

It started with Fords - Cosworths - before a fateful copy of Car magazine with the Escort Cosworth first review in it - and a big red Shamal. From there, Italian cars were the ones...

And Anna Friel or Neneh Cherry...

That one from the Golf advert which used Young at Heart by The Bluebells.

edit: Paula Hamilton. More recent pictures suggest dental work has taken place or is needed.

I think the first car I ever lusted over was a Red Triumph Stag, my best friends dad had a red one, they were the rich ones on our street!

The first time I had any spare cash after getting on the housing ladder and having kids, I bought one - in red just like he had.

The of course it was MK2 jag and 3ltr Granada like in the Sweeney - not owner either of those yet, but they are on the list !
