Well as per above my Son hasn't been given the opportunity to return to school today in year 6, and we have been given the timetable for my daughter in year 10 high school for going back in 2 weeks time.
One day a week, between 10am and 1:15pm, with a break in the middle. That's it. Less than 3 hours a week.
Five year groups, only one year group going back, and that's all they can do.
What a joke.

Fuucking pointless - surely this gov is the worst one we’ve had and we should get rid - I’m labour but anyone else will do.

A sea change is needed, this is not politics it’s popularitics...

And even that has vomited in the face of this gov.

Well as I said before, too many noses poking in to a problem to find resolution. Schools in Scotland were meant to open for " vulnerable kids" the beginning of this week.......did it happen, no because teachers were on in service days which the unions stipulated they needed even though nearly 60% of them have been doing nothing at home ( and yes, I do know that as a fact)!........I feckin give up

Just opened this thread, quickly going to close it again.

No option here, schools are closed until restart after summer, late August here. This has been the case since the very early in lockdown so no new news.

Well, the primary where I am a governor reopened today, pretty successfully, after a training and rehearsal day yesterday, and some hard work over the previous weeks, sorting out some plans. There has been a lot of bureaucratic form-filling, but also some sensible precautions to help to reduce the risks of infections for children, staff and parents.

In my opinion there is far too much consultation and consensus seeking by UKG which is driving a lot of confusion at a local level.....and not enough 'telling' ie. JFDI! As I've said before, if I had ran my old management teams like this over the last 30 + years, then we would have got nothing done. :saifi:

Yes, that's exactly what we did. We were thinking of opening on Monday, but the Headteacher decided to take a day with the staff to get everyone comfortable with the new procedures and to prepare their lessons properly, so that the children could get off to a good start, and to try to minimise the parental whining about 'oh its all so confusing and dangerous'. Good call. Can't understand why anyone would think that a bit of training and preparation would be some sort of joke.

(In my business we have a notion that we should do an hour of preparation for every minute of a serious event; we struggle to hit that, but a day's preparation for a one-hour sales pitch is not at all unusual.)

Just perhaps , it would of been wiser in hindsight to have done the preparation before ,on the Friday , that's what the word means pre ......= Before the event , am I missing something ,the event was Monday head shaking .....

On Friday, some staff were working in school, looking after the children who were already with us, others were furloughed or taking a few days off before the return to work, so that would have been challenging, both for staffing and operationally. Yes, if 'starting on Monday' was a crucial deadline, then the prep day would have had to be beforehand, but as it was not, this was a better plan. In my experience, the people actually doing the jobs have a better insight on how to do them, than the people sitting at home shaking their heads and saying that they should have done something different.

We have three classrooms, shared across 5 year groups. We have no school hall; the nearby church has been adapted to be used as a hall, but it is closed at the moment.

I try not to be impolite to fellow members of this forum, but you have no fricking idea what you are taking about. I cannot understand why you would think you have a better idea of how to run a school that you know absolutely nothing about than the headteacher and the board of governors; and it makes me concerned about other choices you might be making, if you are applying the same combination of ignorance and confidence.

Loads of similar schools around the country, <80 children means 3 classes. A state school isn’t a viable entity with <25 pupils per class.

You might think about how your personal experience from years ago is really not useful in making judgements about completely different situations now.

Ours is a state primary. Or to be precise, a Church of England (VA) Primary School. Our roll is about 95-105 children; at 95 we are not financially viable, at 100+ we can just about get by with support from the community and a local trust, so long as the headteacher takes classes 4 days per week while managing the school in the evenings, on Fridays and at the weekend.
