A really nice run out, and many thanks to Annie, Rob and Peter for making it happen.

I particularly enjoyed the countryside detour that went something like this:

....although some of the signage on my phone and on the road was a little disturbing....

Yes - we had to revamp the detour as the road from the A3400 to Honington was closed - I'm pleased you feel the detour was worth it - we discovered it on a reccy to a pub in Whatcote - pub recommended, but parking would have been useless for our group (and their max party size was 6)

Can't belive this is almost 5 years ago, pre COVID and all the other s**t that has happened in the interim...So... What's the chance of getting another similar day out organised for 2024?

Any takers.

This is a nice run through Savernake Forest, Marlborough and Hackpen Hill.

I went on the Club drive around the Isle of Wight a while ago, and it was a really nice format.

There were about 6 runs of 15-20 miles each, with a rendezvous between each (usually in a scenic car-park) one where we could gather together for chat, photos and ice-cream. With a lunch stop in the middle.

Also with a great briefing, eg:

23.
11.55am to 12.20pm: The second stop is at the St Catherine’s Hill car park. This car park is free (which allows us to overlook its slightly poor surface). It is well worth taking a short walk from the car park to the headland beyond (signed as part of the coastal walk and Footpath C35 to the ‘Cliff Top Viewpoint’). It does what it says on the tin (but do keep your distance from the cliff edges). There are sweeping views back across West Wight (including to the Needles if it is not too hazy), down to Blackgang Chine, and up to the 14th century St Catherine’s lighthouse (the ‘pepperpot’). Unless you are really early (and very fit) there will probably not be enough time to climb up to the lighthouse. The views from the headland are not that different. There are no WCs at the car park but there is sometimes a van selling hot drinks and ice creams, and some newly installed wooden seating.

Me too - but Sunday April 21 is 'Drive it Day" - I'll be joining my insurers Cherished Vehicles on their treasure hunt for charity - last year friends were welcome.

I made @RoaryRati take this route from Cirencester once - hope that wasn't too bad. Starts at a KFC and goes through an industrial estate and then a housing estate, but improves.

The road surface on leaving Marlborough through Savernake is vile - we know it very well as it's the route we take to SportsItalia
Wiltshire is my neck of the woods, and the roads are clearly not high on the council's list of things to do which is why I have an insurance claim lodged with them. Savernake's potholes are filled but not repaired - so they keep collapsing.

I did that last week in my QP IV, visiting relatives in South Cerney. It would have been a nice drive if it hadn't have been in torrential rain on the way there, and pitch black on the way back.

We could possibly be interested in this, especially as I now have a partner who is a bit of a petrol head :beauty: bit of a drive from south Dorset, but could be a laugh

OK, so looks like enough interest to make this a goer'.

I will start a new thread so that things don't get too confused with old threads from years gone by. I will also avoid the Drive it Day as it would be a sad loss not to have Annie and Rory there too.
