Love it Mike :)

Still can't decide what to do with my M140i, even harder now that my local dealer managed to sneak in the major second £650 service in the original £299 service pack!
Was browsing their stock and came across a 640i X-drive M Sport GT, that was less than a year old for £35k. Lovely B58 engine, 4 wheel drive, hatchback, pan roof, massive boot, fully loaded etc.
So watched a review on YouTube. Perfect family wagon was the conclusion, why buy a SUV.
Then I came to my senses again, life isn't over yet! and checked the current prices on Renault Alpines...

I traded my M140i in against a fully loaded RRS with a conversion and every conceivable extra. Has more positive comments on it than all my previous cars combined. I love it. You will get good money for the M1- do it!

I could never have a RRS, I take the **** out of too many mates with unhealthy LR fetishes!
A smaller sporty SUV does have attraction, Macan, X3M Comp or X3M40i. A friend has a X5M, defies the laws of physics, but far too much money like the RR SVR.

Not quite sure how an Alpine compares with an SUV! There’s not even anywhere in the cabin for a phone, wallet, sunglasses - nothing. You have to buy an extra satchel thing! But if you have no family or friends or luggage, and just want to go for a blast (all be it, quietly), then the Alpine is fantastic. I fancy one in place of my Porsche, but need the second prices to fall substantially yet.

Read an interview with Gordon Murray recently and his modern car is the Alpine, sounds sublime. SUVs are for a time of life IMHO - we still need a big boot and occasional seven seats - but I quite happily take the Golf R Estate when I can get my hands on the keys. For a start it drinks less fuel than the XC90 and goes a tad faster....
