I’d be amazed if the base model was £200k, more like £140k I reckon which compared to Ferrari is super cheap.

What do you think they'd pitch this against, Dicky? AM Vantage (now £114k or +£10k without a roof), some kind of 911 GT3 sort of thing? For £10k more than £140k you can get into a 2019 720S, which whilst a bonkers decision in some ways is a staggering amount of car for the money. And likely to be, what, £130k by the time we see one of these Supersportiva thingies in the flesh?

If I had £150k for a car right now, I'd hang on to it for a few months and be amazed how much more car it would get me as time goes by.

I'm lucky that I like my Vantage enough to not feel an overwhelming need to replace it. There's so much choice!

They would just make it, it’s up to forums and journos to choose against what it’s pitched. Basically, anything at the same price point.

Then what would you pitch it against? I mean, if you fancied one, what else what you take for a spin?

If it is 200k it is up against very nice (and lusted after) Ferraris, Lambos and Maclarens etc. So it will have to be very very good.

Even if it is 'only' 140k, you still have a crop of very good and very popular cars to beat - think 911, Merc GTR, R8, Vantage etc.

Or an MC, a gran cab and a daily driver :)

If I had the choice of an Audi, a Merc or a Porsche at the same price, I’d buy the Maserati.

As would I. Or possibly the Vantage ragtop.

But lots and lots seem happy to drop that amount on a 911. And if past performance is anything to go buy in terms of residuals, that is a decision made with the head.

Yeah, Annoying, isn't it? :)

Surely if the decision is a mathematical one made with the head, you’d be buying an Aygo or a Sandero or similar.

Looks like a render to me, just more hot air news to keep the brand known until they get off their Italian lunch break and actually do some work building something.

That being said, using the 4c tub and work gone into the dumped 6c and Guilia coupe could perhaps produce a sub 100k car to rival a base 911. Now that might sell.

Yeah true. But on the Head <-> Trouser decision making spectrum, those two are right up at the left-hand end. I think Porsche sits just right of centre.

I believe it’s going up against the new Dino coming next year. In which case Ferrari probably not too happy about this ! The article also says it will be the “right side” of 200k. So it’s anyone’s guess what it will cost. If this is the disaster many on here seem to predict I’d rather see Maserati go down swinging on a car like this vs a diesel ghibli

True .... but the 911 has also built a reputation as an every day sports car. Which Maserati certainly has not.

A 4C tub with a bigger engine and appropriately styled mid engined performance would have a market if it was priced right but surely that is no where near £200k. Audi R8, Honda NSX, BMW i8 competitor maybe

Though the sales figures for 911's are pretty poor these days. It's the lowest selling Porsche. If they relied on this they'd have gone bankrupt years ago. It's the Cayenne and Mecan that keep them going. Hence why Maserati thought they needed the Levante.

If Maser are pining their hopes on a £150k(?) 2-seater, there could be trouble ahead! Again.

I wouldn’t have said 911 sales were pretty poor, it outsells all its competitors by quite a margin.
