Nice but “due this year” .
Nothing Maserati does is that quick- including the cars.

If only there was certainty in any of the brands plans... since the centenary it has been one idea after another and still nothing new.

Although I've been as critical as anyone in respect of Maserati's programmes to date, it's encouraging to see the Levante Trofeo, and using the 4C as a springboard for the Supersportiva would significantly cut development time. OK it's not an Alfieri, but I suspect it's closer to reality now than the Alfieri was back in 2014, and it might at least put a positive spin on the brand for a change. I'm not so keen on the name though.

Here's hoping......

First thing Georg Kacher calls out in the article, but seems it’s using the tub recipe from the 4c with modified suspension modules and a bigger capacity version (3.6 vs 3.0) of the engine that would have gone to the now dead 8c/gtv

taking the fight directly to Ferrari Aston and McLaren

It does look great, but prefer the looks of the 4C. I think at 200K they will price themselves out of the market though...............Hope I'm wrong though!!

Looks like they’ve added a Ferrari lights front and rear, plus a bonnet scoop, to a 4C. Nice, but not inspiring or different. A tough sell though if it’s priced to match the 488, so it had better be good!

“A tough sell”.
That’s the understatement of 2020 so far.
No-one in their right mind would buy that over a Ferrari unless they had loadsa money and were blessed with stupidity!
It’ll be 6/10ths the car, more exclusive mind you, but it’s value will plummet quicker than a hookers drawers.

I think it looks encouraging and as for whether you would go for a Maserati over a Ferrari all things being equal, I would like to think there are still a good number of people who would chose a trident, me for one. I would hope that I am not alone here, especially on this forum.
Being made at the Maserati factory in the first place, the 4C is an honorary Maserati anyway so this new car is a natural step forward and let's hope for the sake of the brand, this one gets off the ground.

Agreed. It will if a) they remember to build it, and b) price it right. It'll need to pull in a new cohort of Maserati lovers, attracting people away from Porsche and AM, to be a success. Pitching the price at Ferrari levels won't work (in my humble).

Beautiful but destined to fail.

Maserati is not currently associated with a 200k price point and is up against serious competition as well as brand snobbery......in fact I'm not sure I would buy one if I had 200k (but I will wait and see).

Just under £200k, so that'll be about Aud$650,000.

I'm gonna need some more share tips.
Perfectly pitched in price vs competitors that will be easy to topple. Who needs a 7 year service plan or guaranteed 70%+ residuals at 2 years. Let me find the website and start ticking those options boxes... whilst I am at it I will invest in car phone warehouse too. (He turns to get his coats)

So they’ve made a more expensive version of a car they pulled because they couldn’t sell any?

As Ferrari nicked the Alfieri and called it the California, so Maserati have nicked the 8C and called it the Supersportivo?

I hope I'm wrong, but that's got to be the ultimate parts bin special?

I can imagine there was a meeting when the accountants were called in to reveal remaining stock across the company and the myriad of suppliers to Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. They were probably pleased with the sketches and hopeful that no one would notice or care that much. Then came the awful realisation that if you added up the sum of its parts, it would be relatively cheap, like the hard to sell 4C. Nevermind, replied the accountants, we still have thousands of oval shaped clocks we can pop into the dashboard and then we can at least double the price.

Having said all that, the 8C has held its value very well over the years with Maserati underpinnings. Maybe it was simply time to return the favour?
