Stradale woes - Park off / ABS unavailable / ASR unavailable / ESC unavailable

So, two weeks into my ownership and having just clocked 30,000 miles my Stradale greeted my wife with this last weekend. At first I thought it might be the battery, but seeing as that was new when I collected the car (albeit Yuasa rather than Bosch), and it has been on the Ctek for a week, I think I have ruled that out.

I have also tried disconnecting the battery (negative terminal) for 5m and then reconnecting to see if that clears the warnings (and it doesn’t).

I can find one thread on here that suggests most of these lights / messages might be down to ABS sensor failure - albeit I’ve not seen that associated with Park Off as well - which could be possible, particularly as some of Shropshire’s roads are less than smooth.

Any suggestions of other things I should try before contacting Hills to see how their warranty works?

Not on a Maserati, but had a similar set of warnings on my AMG last year (ABS, ESC, traction etc) and it was a wheel sensor. Basically all of those functions rely on knowing what speed the wheels are rotating. Could apply that logic to the parking brake as well, I guess. Lots of scary lights but relatively cheap and easy fix (probably cheaper at Merc than Maserati, I admit)

Bosch battery on order. Will try that next weekend and hope that proves to be the solution.

Am wondering whether the tracker is proving to be part of the problem (flatting the battery extra fast). I live in an area of no mobile signal on any network (not even 2G) — could the tracker be trying to phone home at max power as it seeks a signal (in vain)? Would be interested to know if anyone else lives in a mobile ‘not-spot’ with a Granturismo + Navtrak tracker and can advise.

It was indeed the battery. New Bosch battery installed and brief run out in the rain this afternoon proved that the 'new' Yuasa battery that was installed when I purchased the car certainly could not cope with a couple of weeks off a charger. It now seems comprehensively dead.

I had the same problem on my 2009 QP last year. Replaced the battery with a Masser replacement but still the lights stayed on. Ended up being the nearside front ABS sensor in the wheel hub. However, in the QP you can't just replace the sensor. It's an integral part of the wheel hub so the whole lot needs replacing, £617 + VAT and an hours labour...just over £1k. But it fixed the problem.

All batteries have a date code on them . How 'new' was the Yuasa battery?
Sounds to me that the car has been stood for a while historically and was never connected to a battery conditioner but a simple battery charger which basically 'boiled' the acid dry or caused sulphurisation of the plates...
Which type of CTEK do you have , does it have the 'desulphation' mode. you could try that a few times...

Thanks for those suggestions.
Will check the Yuasa battery date code when I am in the same location as the car (this weekend).
I have a CTEK MXS5.0 - have tried the Recond option a couple of times to see if that made a difference - but has not made any observable difference.
To be fair to Hills of Lymington (the supplying dealer who had the Yuasa battery installed) they are in the process of refunding me the cost of the new Bosch battery.

Indeed. Yuasa are a major player in the Uniterupible Power Supply business and their batteries are used in huge numbers of systems - so in general they are good batteries.

WHS...we use Yuasa & Ritek replacement batteries in UPS's and rarely have issues. Could be new battery that got knackered prematurely by dealer. They are often not the most organised of trades.

This post scared the **** out of me , just bought a Yuasa battery for my Spyder , so far so good though .
I had very similar problems on my BMW , turned out to be an abs wheel sensor too .

We probably know some people in common then....

I don't think anyone said Yuasa batteries were bad. The original post was about an error likely caused by low battery power. The normal "go-to" batteries are the factory one or Bosch. Yuasa is a well known brand too and should also be fine provided it's of a suitable spec. Any battery can fail, especially if its been sitting around in a warehouse for ages.

Just checked the date on the Yuasa battery that was fitted and suspect I have the source of the problem. I can't see a manufacturing date, but the battery has stamped on it a "recharge due" date of September 2016. Considering that it was fitted as a 'new' battery in August 2018, that might well have something to do with the problem I had. Lesson learned - will be checking dates on batteries in future!

As I say above, there was no quibble from the supplying dealer, Hills of Lymington, on refunding me the price of a new Bosch battery.
