I once bought a car from Sytner Select - never again. Before I got it home, the thoroughness of the "pre-sale checks carried out by trained vehicle technicians to ensure all cars regardless of source meet the same exacting standards" became clear and the lack of love from previous owners was apparent in my short ownership period. I chopped it in after a year (thank goodness for a 12 month warranty).

As I now understand it, there is a reason they end up in that arm and it is usually neglect or lack of history.

That said, it is almost cheap enough to take a punt if you want a white car :)

It’s cheap for a reason so buyer beware. It’s about £5k undervalued and that £5k saving does not go very far if it needs work

front bushes £1k
Pads £1k an axle (fronts 30k max)
Clutch £3-4k (they last circa 37-40k)
Leaking cam covers £6-800

I would hazard it needs a clutch and they don’t want to do it so punting it out quick.

Get an inspection.

So as it has a Warrenty could and most stuff stacks up would you not take it to Matt...go through it with a fine tooth comb and then claim anything that is covered under the Warrenty ? Clutch after 33k/40k...Christ that's not many miles.

As @conaero has mentioned, the likely maintenance works aren’t warrantable items. Get it ppi’d first. Sytner own 4 Maserati dealerships, yet have 20+ Maseratis advertised in group but not at MD.

I’ve often wondered that too with other brands they have. Obviously there are too many costs involved in preparing to official brand warranty standard so they go for the easy option. In normal times you could go and have a look and take a view but buying at the moment blind is much higher risk, unless you go somewhere you trust of course.

It was 5k more Matt in the beginning so priced about right...but like most of these cars customers are few. I wonder if they need to off load as had it for too long....Big dealerships do this don't they with targets etc...?

Select sell cars that are not up to standard or Graypaul would be selling it.

Problem is that not all of (potentially) big ticket items are covered by warranty - e.g. brakes. clutch etc so you could be (probably are) looking at a big bill as soon as you sign on the dotted line.

There is a reason that this is not being sold by Grey Paul in Birmingham ;)

Good point,
So you outline the potential problem areas, based on forum knowledge, confirm they’re covered ( in writing) by the warranty, or know what you’re in for clutch wear wise, brakes ets and proceed from there.

Wouldn't a inspection cover that off though....Clutch wear and brakes etc...

Too many seats :)

Just the state of the buttons would put me off in terms of care of ownership and preparation

Bet it will need tyres soonish as well

I also wanted a two seater but it would have to be 4....One because I rather like the bonnet more than the two seater and two there are four of us so it would get more use than the two seater....

It would (or rather should) but how many people are going to think - pah, new pads are cheap enough or that a clutch change is easy enough?

Three scenarios form my point of view:
  1. it’s a complete bargain
  2. it’s a heap load of trouble and will cost a fortune
  3. I paid too much for mine ;)
I am hoping it’s 1 or 2 and my money is on 2.
