I took my GS swith panel out the other day because the buttons were doing the usual and had gone all slimey .
I was bored at lunch today so took the panel apart , scraped all the sticky resedue off all the swiches with my finger nail and wiped clean with alcohol .
Worth an hour of anyones time . They look brand new now .

Yep, I managed to do the same and with panel in situ, along with the centre console buttons. Took about 3 hours, Sticky Stuff Remover and Meths helped along with cotton buds but mainly a strong thumbnail. It failed with the air vents though so I replaced those.

Will the lettering wear off with use now?

Its printed and the symbol is basically a hole in the black paint.

Over time maybe but its a good way to extend it for a few year more.

You could of course, spray the same clear rubber coating back over the top. I did find it in aerosol form...Ill go have a look to see if I can find it.

Let us know when you work out how to clean the slime out from under your fingernail. :)

The eagle eyed viewer amongst you all may have also noticed that I also swapped the (Sport and MSP) & ( Start and Hazzard) buttons around. Because our cars are right hand drive ! A handy hint for all you pop pickers out there with midget arms (Courtesy of MAF)

Sport is the button I need furthest away so I'm never tempted to switch it off.
