Yes, a GS, il admit that I had the whole console out, but yes, just gave them a good tug with wrapped pliers. Just don't loose the little white cone and spring on the back of the dials. I left the actual buttons alone, as was unsure about them, and they look ok.

I've lost the little white cone and the spring .

Well after pulling the dials off as instructed I scraped off the gunk with my nail , made up a little plastic blunt edged scraping tool for the tight bits ,wiped with alcohol and they look spot on :excellent:

That just gives Essex a bad name....

How the f*&% do you get the buttons that bad!

Panel shuts are awful on the car, looks like it has lived in a ploughed field and.....

Its an 05 model year with a Classico front bumper on it...stinks of budget repair!

I take it that you are referring to the Rat Bans? They just look like the sticky had picked up debris.

The rubberised coating is applied to give a tactile feeling to hard plastics, in the RB's case rubber frames wouldn't last but hard plastic ones that might feel cheep so the answer is to coat them.

The car buttons is a sort of industry go to but throughout the Fiat/Chrysler group at least; my lad's Punto Grande (07) is just sticky all over the dash and buttons and the steering wheel is peeling all over.... Cannot stand the stuff.

No, l mean the window switches, they seem to go white, (see the awful EBay advert on here) it looks like the rubber has worn off to show white plastic underneath. I see this more than I see sticky stuff. Mine has white bits showing through on one of them, but it’s tiny compared to the EBay one which is horrific. It looks like if I scrape the button it will just make it worse, if that makes sense?

This is what will happen to Martyn’s GS buttons above if he does not apply a new layer of rubber sealer.

Whatever your using to remove the rubber coating is eating through the paint too.

I havent used anything yet. I just see tiny white bits, that look like they're shining through the broken rubber. Tbh I am splitting hairs, these are only a few tiny dots and mostly only on the drivers side button, but I am a perfectionist...
It feels like the rubber is broken and the white is underneath?
The pic on the ebay ad looks like an extreme case, like he's tried to remove sticky, and removed the rubber along with it.
I always assumed you couldnt fix this and needed to change the rubber membrane, because it doesnt look like anything that you remove; it looks like absence of something. Almost the exact opposite of the sticky stuff, if that makes sense?

It's the same on my window switches and on some of the radio switches. It looks like if I were to peel the rubber off, the switches would end up completely white.

Then maybe the you've worn through both the rubber then the paint where they are older and too far gone for renovation?

The buttons are white in their nude state, then a paint is applied, leaving a reverse/hole where the digits shine through then sealed with the transparent rubber coating over the top.
