Great work - I replaced the whole unit in the GTS (new owner will get the benefit) - just doing buttons must be more cost effective.

Thanks all. I believed the UK market had a need as no one does it so thought why not make it happen and start something off. So roughly 18 months ago (and about £20 odd k into it now) set about working the best processes to get the correct finish. I have seen competitors work first hand and fixed a few bodged jobs. The laser side I wasn't bothered about as anyone can do that if you know a little on Autocad. The key to it is the prep & coating which has gone through numerous revisions. Last revision change start of December when I needed to close an argument that the finish wasn't exactly like factory due to a sample I sent out. So they sent me their part so I bought a brand new part from dealer; both my refinished part and the part sent wasn't the same as factory. Why didn't I buy a new part from the start I don't know as I thought a few plastics on my car that I went off were ok?? Lesson learnt (every car buttons are as bad as each others)

So to the point now. I'm in the UK. I can do it. But...... I'm sadly giving it 6 months as I won't be able to keep up the rental + bills on the workshop which I took on October with small amounts of work so far and also due to limited work in my day job due to office closures I can't really fund it.. Hopefully reviews and word of mouth make it possible for me to provide the service for all and get to the position to sponsor the forum.

Why me: To put it in laymen's terms. For example a set of buttons above (1 +R ) would cost you:

  • New - £141 from Eurospares RRP £171 (which will screw up again)
  • Refinished - 150euro from CarPlastix (matt black no factory feel coating) + couriers overseas + brexit hassle on import/export.
  • Refinished - £50 from Me. Which will be as close as OEM as you will get. In my eyes £50 too cheap but that's what I have been told that's all people will pay.

It takes me roughly 2 hours a set + materials + workshop costs so you will be able to work out the profits from this. The work involved is more than prep and paint a front wing that the norm is £125.

I hear Emblem do refinishing now. Good luck to them :)

I'm here if you need me.

Regards,
Roland

Having held them in my hand they are indeed excellent.

We will be sending up more bits.

Thanks Roland

Cheers.. I'm currently sat scrubbing a 4200 centre dash vent as first go the base coat not good enough. I hate them, a usual body paint guy would have stamped on it an threw it in the bin by now but I persist for a NLA part.

Very nice work. If I hadn’t just sent some to Lorenzo in the US (great job but by the time I’d paid him, plus carriage both ways, plus import duty.... not cheap...) I’d be on to you. I may still have some for you anyway. How much for the central pad on a 4200 (contains the elec window buttons, plus 5 others like the MSP etc)?

What parts did you get done and the cost? The States pricing seems hit and miss. I would say for 5 + 2 about £150 aslong as the guy from Spain hasn't touched them. ;)

Just a quick one before I go home. Has anyone here had soft knobs done before on any Italian? Different technique to do them which I will share as it makes my life easier fixing them. If they are listening on how to do what I do; a product called 'Mipa 2K-Elastic'; put some in the base coat and it stops the paint cracking off when you squeeze them.... A product from the old rubber Ford spoiler days.

No, but it's nothing to be ashamed of, no matter the nationality of the lady in question. It happens more often than you'd think. Apparently. Of course, it's never happened to me so I'm just passing it on ;)

Apparently there’s a new tablet on the market for that complaint called mycoxafloppyun

Roland is the real deal, I’ve sent my set of GS switches to him and they look great now. I’ve yet to receive them so I can’t comment on the feel but Roland will always keep in touch and send you progress images every now and then.

Once the car comes out of storage I will be sending them off.

Do you also do the round vents and chrome ring?

Hi,
A few people were waiting for images from a sample refinishing job. Heres one I done for Conaero.

Hopefully Conaero can share with you the outcome and his verdict. Any criticism appreciated.

Thanks.

Unreal finish! You're bound to have a large untapped market for the sticky Ferrari button of first world problems?
The Yanks would love these too and easy to post etc.

I can do the vents but not the chrome ring at the minute. The machine to do the chrome work is approx £5k and the paints are not cheap. I can however get them done if so desired.
