Hi,

or buttons made of brass for coupe/spyder and gransport:

Google Translate from the website:

For Maserati 4200 GT lovers
No more sticky fingers!
Owners of Italian classic vehicles know the problem of rubber coatings on controls inexorably dissolving.

Topspeed-Design Bernhard Schmidt manufactures the first high-quality replacement switches for Maserati vehicles. The switches are pre-cast as individual pieces in bronze using a decorative casting process, and mature purely by hand to optical and technical perfection. After extensive preparatory work, the surface is finished with a satin-matt velours nickel layer in our own electroplating shop. The symbol engravings are laid out in black. The lettering SPORT can be designed in red on request.

The LED display is active when the switch is actuated.

Lifetime guarantee on function and surface quality.

Price: 7-piece, handmade, ready-to-install set € 590.00 plus VAT.

On request, the switches can be integrated into the circuit board provided. Price €85 plus VAT

As this thread has inspired me, I too have decided to get rid of this stickiness too. Not one to dither, and after testing on a side vent my evening is looking like this.
Using this 90% rubbing alcohol seems a good compromise of being able to do the job versus evaporating too quick or stripping the surface to much.
As I have carbon seat backs I am at least relieved of the largest problem area thankfully. The top centre vent will wait for another day u til I find my stubby screwdriver.
Will post the after shot results if not too ashamed.64E73C81-60F8-46D3-AC3E-724566F636B4.jpeg0087B0DD-1BE7-4833-8F72-44A13CEFC6FF.jpeg

Well, not as arduous as anticipated, all nice and clean & sticky **** is gone. Don’t worry about rubbing too hard, I was pretty vigorous but it didn’t affect the white icons or damage the base black surface.
Just the top centre vent and AC knobs to finish the job fully,

Did you have much trouble extracting the vents?

The rear and front outboard vents just pull out. The 2 inner large vents have tabs you need to pull inwards to remove the vent. In the videos I saw there were 3, but there were 4 on mine so worth using a torch and checking before you try tugging at the vent.
It’s a bit tricky as you have to try and keep a constant pulling pressure as you retract each tab and rotate the fins also to access the different tab locations.

Did you lacquer over the top to protect the icons at all?
If you are UK based, id love to see your carbon seat backs

I haven’t put any top coat on currently, the icons seem very hardy, II may use a silk/Matt clear coat further down the line if they look like they will need further protection.
I am in Worcestershire, not sure if that’s close to you or not?

I have started the process of fixing this nasty stickiness in my 4200. Areas I have identified with the issue so far:
  • All six circular vents
  • Door handle surrounds
  • Steering wheel cover between the dashboard and the wheel itself, and around ignition slot (huge surface area)
  • Windscreen vent
  • All climate control knobs and buttons
  • All radio buttons and knobs
  • Sport, fog lights, etc, buttons
  • Tunnel flap and wing mirror control buttons
I have been using the Neutrogena make-up remover wipes and they've been doing a good job so far. I did scrub off the open / closed indicator circles on the windscreen vent, and the window buttons so I'll need to come up with a replacement for those.

Things like the door and window seals all seem to be okay after a careful inspection. Not looked under the car yet, but I'm expecting boots to be in a bad way, so will look to fix those if it comes to it.

Mine took a turn for the worse this year, the five buttons and window switches, the rest were not too bad. It got to the point where they were magnet for **** with their stickiness and also touching them and then the tan interior marked it, so I decided to get the proper job in the Winter when the car is on sorn I decided on a temporary fix. The actual decals are embossed in the switches/buttons so if you could remove the paint with a pin without chipping the paint the job would be a good one but unfortunately I don’t think that’s possible but in the meantime things look at least half-presentable. Cleared of the sticky stuff with white spirit and painted in Matt black.IMG_2799.jpegIMG_2801.jpegIMG_2802.jpeg

Just to add the little light cover in the buttons push out from the back so they don’t get sprayed too.

Fantastic, that's a brilliant result! Can I ask what paint you used to finish the buttons with?

I managed to remove the vent cans yesterday, going to have a good go at getting them scrubbed clean this week. My front middle pair had three clips, was a little fiddly but a screwdriver while keeping tension on the can allowed it to come free.

@Nibby : and then you look at "2002-06 MASERATI CAMBIOCORSA COUPE SPYDER DELUXE BUTTON RESTORATION KIT" at bay.com, "Clear lacquer matt" over it and your buttons will look like new...

If anyone is interested, I made my own stickers for the switches and lacquered over them. Obviously not as good as the proper job but as an interim measure they look OK.
I could supply them for a small fee, if that's allowed here.
I used cad to produce all the graphics.
