"squeaky" gear change on 4200

Picked up a "new" 04 plate cambiocorsa with 24k miles & FSH a couple of weeks ago & noticed a very slight squeak when changing whilst still fairly cold through low gears.

Is this common? Do I need to be concerned? Clutch release bearing? Thoughts on whether it'll "get through it"?

I know the car has been sat relatively dormant for 8-9 months at the dealer before I picked her up.

Any advice/thoughts/comments? Thanks!

Spigot bearing...............worse on take off in 1st?

Cheap part....but labour expensive if it gets very bad

Yeah, I'd say it was slightly worse in pull off in first. Easy home DIY fix or specialist? Need to find a local Indy soon anyway!

Thanks Parisien!

Am afraid its quite a bit of labour to change a £15 part........so much so people change their clutches at the same time.............!!

Whats your clutch like, mileage wise?

So it's best to do it while doing a clutch change, along with the flywheel every other change and the clutch release bearing...

As far as I know the clutch is original at 24k miles, had hoped I wouldn't have to touch it for some time. If it's the spigot bearing (& considering the knowledgable advice) is it something that's irritating but can be lived with or a problem that needs sorting before it leads to something bigger?! Don't mean to sound like a cheap skate, however just moved house & saving for a wedding, more money on "a car" (seriously!) wouldn't sit well ;-)

The spigot makes more of a whooot sound than a squeak?????

......defintions might vary, but yes as Safrane says.........not a high pitched squeak/squeal...in which case it could be the other source mentioned

I'd say it was a kinda whoot squeak ;-)

I'll seek further advice from all at llandow or BIAMF if you're at either chaps?

Never had a squeak out of either of my GranSport clutches, FWIW.

Do you have the SD3 reading for the clutch? That will help determine whether it is shortly time to swap the clutch out. I'd say it's prudent to budget for swapping out the clutch every 25-30K miles.

The spigot can be left to 'whoot' without any damage to the clutch so if you have life left in it, and you can live with it...let it be.
