Squeaking from rear left wheel

Had an advisory on my MOT about EPB just passing. Seems it wasn't that good on the passenger side. That was a few months ago. Since then I've noticed a squealing sound coming from the rear wheel on that side when I drive forward atg first starting off. It doesn't make the sound when I reverse. After a reasonable journey the sound seems to disappear but next time I use the car it's there again for a while. Could it simply be rust catching that gets work off or possibly handbrake shoe connected? Any thoughts?

Linings sort them quick before they jam. Then never use the epb again.
They are an easy job.

Thanks for the pointers. When you say easy job, you're talking to a bit of a DIY muppet in me, great at taking things apart that never seem to want to go back together again. So, any guidance on how to sort the linings for this muppet would be gratefully received.

From memory. Literally just unbolt the caliper and hang out the way (10mm hex socket), 2x 13mmm bolts hold the disc on, wiggle disc off and you will be at the shoes. You can inspect and replace then. They are an old school set up. Thats how I did it.

Get yourself a full set of Italian spanners; most things can be fixed if you bit them hard enough. Conaero, unfortunately, is beyond repair, but hitting him is great fun.

Once replaced, do I need to do anything else? Sure I've read somewhere but now can't find it, that you need to plug the car into a scan tool to reset something?

Mine threw an epb fault after changing. I cycled the epb a few times and ignition on off and all was good. Reset itself no problem.

This looks a really cheap fix, thanks for the signposting! Anything else needed like the springs or anything or is everything included in the Autodoc shoes kit?

No springs or adjusters but mine were cleaned and all fine. They are pretty standard items too so I would not buy these from eurospares either if you need them. Personally unless your car is a daily I would pull the discs to see if it needs the shoes first then leave on stands if parts are needed. Autodoc takes upto 7 days to deliver as come from the Netherlands I think.
