Spyder numbers and being unique!

I wrote to the factory to get some idea about the numbers of Spyder GT vehicles that were produced.
The information provided is quite interesting:

In 2003, Maserati sold twelve RHD Spyder GT (MY03) in the UK. (This model year is pre-facelift, but does include the updates to vehicle structure, the glass rear window, V8 badges etc - so it is the rarest variant)

My car is painted Grigio Alloy which is also known as Argento Luna, and Maserati confirm that mine is the only Spyder GT in this colour in the UK. (CC numbers are not included) Moreover there is a total of just seven Spyder GTs worldwide in this colour! The other six vehicles are equipped with different interior fittings compared to mine, so my car really is unique.

In total worldwide, Maserati sold 565 Spyder GTs of all model years including both left- and right-hand drive.

These are rare beasts!

I found this site useful in the past :

It uses DVLA data to measure the number of cars on the road in the UK by model.

Unfortunately there are 5 different names for Maserati Spyders (GT, Cambiocorsa etc.) so you have to add them together. I think there are about 200 in the UK still in total. The proportion on SORN is rising though :(.

They are quite rare and getting rarer!

Hi andy, would you mind sending me the details of whom you corresponded with... I'd like to ask them the same re GS Spyders.

I'm a bit surprised by the numbers you quote... My understanding is that there were 44 GS spyders in RHD, but closer to another 450 in LHD. This is not altogether surprising, many german and Italian prestige seem to sell at a ratio of 1:10, largely courtesy of the population sizes of USA and continental Europe versus UK, Aus, NZ, Singers, HK. Etc.

For example, Audi R8 GT.... 333 in total, about 30 in RHD. (would be interesting to know MCV split too!)

I'm not surprised to think there'd be around 250RHD non GS spyders across all markets, as i do see them at about a 6 to 1 ratio with GS Spyders {44 in total}. I am surprised however to think that they'd be made in the same numbers as LHD... This is unusual. I'd have expected about 2500 lhd...

Morning! You have a personal message Foibles.

My numbers are only for the manual gearbox spyders (the GT) and don't include the CC boxed cars.
