Sporadic Beebing Coming From Dashboard

Hi all
Just received my car back from the spray shop. They had it for 5 weeks. It had to be charged as the battery had run flat. They said that they didn't jump start it at all and car was started with proper kit.
Ever since I got her back there has been a constant beeping sound coming from the dash (the same beep that comes on when you turn the ignition key) there is no set rhythm it may beep once in a minute then it can be 4 beeps all together. But it is not going away.
I have no warning signs on the dash display. I am assuming it is something that they have done.

Any ideas anyone???

All sorts of electrical problems show up if the battery voltage is low , if the battery is a few years old and they left it flat for a while it might be low, enough power to start the car but not keep the electrics happy

A new battery has cured many electrical problems on modern cars

Cheers Darren
Voltage is showing 12v when I turn the ignition on but not turning it over. Is that about right?

..and forget what the voltage gauge says. It may as well be calibrated in cheese.

Turn the battery off for 15 minutes or so, using the switch in the boot. Then try again. If that fixes it, all well and good.

If not, I suggest you have (at least) two possible courses:
1) Get a C-tek and see if it can rescue what *may* be a stuffed battery
2) Get to Halfords and get it (the battery) checked and / or replaced.

If neither of those help, then something else is wrong. Might help if you can post a recording of the noise.

Just a thought. Temperature isn't hovering between 2 and 3C where you are is it?

Yes when I looked it was 2c???

So the low temp alarm will do something like that when it triggers. If the temperature is hovering around 2 degrees it could go off, then the temp goes to 3C, then back to 2C, the alarm sounds and so on and so on....

I know what you're saying but the consecutive beeps where like 4 in 1 second and that happened about 5 times in a 10 minute journey!!

Hi Chaps

Thanks for all your help once again, the problem seems to have disappeared now as from this morning. I think you were right about the battery. maybe that is has been driven a bit, I think it has charged the battery enough to get rid of those electrical niggles. All is good again............Just need to get the H pipe on and the new alcantara roof lining and it will be complete!!

invest in a Ctec , you can buy a plug that connects directly to the terminals and fix it to the trim so all you have to do is plug it in external to the battery compartment

The man speaks truth. Just don't forget to unplug it before you drive away. Ask me how I know this. Go on, I dare you ;)

Luckily I have to reverse mine out of the garage and have to walk past the trickle charger to get in the car. I would have to be a complete spanner to do it after that.

Come on Peter spill the beans....I could do with a laugh
