The sickening part of both Specialist Cars of Malton and Gmund of Leeds is the snivelling weasels at Porsche Club UK defending them to the hilt and then running for the hills and claiming they knew nothing of the 'practices' going on at both shops. We are talking 7 figure sums in both cases, John will have fcuked off to Spain with what he could grab, fortunately it seems Mearns is on the hook with the local serious crime team and even more hopefully his wife who is/was a local councillor is in the thick of it with him! All should be getting some much deserved time in prison very soon!

I sincerely hope those who had cars with them SOR get their cars or money back...

Company has debts of £4.5M
Somehow don't think the assets will cover it...

well the converted church he has run away from will make about £500k it is his assets in Spain they need to seize quickly and then like Mearns they need to get digging to find where he has hidden things. I fear like a floating turd he will pop up again though.

We should do a buyer beware thread on these dodgy traders

The guy I bought my 4200 from was an utter shyster and has since liquidated because he had so many people after him.

What he did to me was give me an autogaurd warranty covering £5k worth of repairs and then he did not register it... I had to get the autogaurd operations director involved to sort it because the little knob has blocked my mobile numbers. Got my warranty in the end though! I was lucky as it seems as though he sold some real lemons to others (i.e. catestrophic engine failure)

Inevitably resurfaced already but his p!ssed off former customers have filled up his google reviews of details of his old company.

This would be very helpful for some, but I'd have thought there could be legal ramifications?

Maybe a way around this is simply to ask forum members to PM if they have any negative feedback to provide re service providers?

That was my thoughts, maybe an offline database type thing?

Gmund Leeds and Specialist Cars of Malton and their respective owners have been on my personal radar since 2001 for very good reason. Anyone who has talked to me in the interim about them has been told the same truth. I doubt Matt would want to host a database of dodgy dealers as sooner or later it would likely result in a knock at his door in the wee small hours! Before dealing with anyone however I'm sure a question on here would bring a flurry of PM's if there was factual history or experiences to be shared. There is an awful lot of knowledge on SportsMaserati, an asset there to be mined!

FYI there have been a number of dodgy vehicles/scam sales and dealers discussed in the past; one notable very dodgy 4200 in the early days kept cropping up, so often it eventually made it as a sticky thread of its own!

There are legal ramifications - alluded to earlier in this thread. Sadly it would be SM that would get the legal stick, not the person who posted it.

Yeah you are right and it would turn into a **** slicing contest

Notice I didnt mention where I bought my car from? :)

Best thing for potential buyers to do is post a link up on a thread on this forum and ask for opinions. People have done that in the past linking to cars that the trader I bought my car off was advertising and I told them to run the other way - if they don't believe me then I linked to his google reviews... the last 4200 he has never sold
