One more question if I may , looks like there's no RCA output so can I piggy back off the parcle shelf speakers for the the feed to the amp using the lead you have sugested ,
Cheers
Correct. It will mean shorter cabling as well - you'll only have to run the RCAs from the shelf into the boot.

The crossover sits between the woofer and tweeter, so I guess I must have rewired it.

Does anyone know which is the positive wire to the quater panel speakers .Drivers side is dark blue or light blue and the near side is orange and orange and black

Here's the complete diagram for the wires coming from the factory HU {striped wires are negative, btw}:

Had a decent conversation with one of our Le Mans group about upgrading the sound in the Spyder (it being his trade). He was suggesting using a JL Cleansweep to get a decent input from the standard headset and then a decent amp and speakers downstream. He has offered me a install and try and if I don't like it money back offer so I was planning to get it done but that was before the gearbox issue. It might have to go on hold for a bit.

Who's your man, Andy? I had some work done on my system a while back but had some issues and always looking for recommendations of people who know their stuff.

Alpine speaker set bought.
I'm not sure why though, I've only got one duff speaker but if a pair are being done, why not do the lot and make the improvement all over. Daft really when I've not driven anywhere yet with the stereo on really, it's windows down all the way :excellent:

I very rarely have the stereo on & prefer to listen to the sound of the V8 although I agree the sound system it isn't up to much the times I have used it.

I can't get an AM reception for BBC radio 5?

Is there a way of using the satnav without having the radio on?

Cheers

AM should be the easiest to get, you may have an aerial out issue, can you get good FM stereo..?? You should be able to use the Sat/Nav without radio, is that a GS you have (can't tell from photo) and what kind of system do you have..??

FM stereo seems to work fine.

Its a GS with a Becker unit but not sure of the model as not with the car at present.

OK "Traffic Pro", similar to my "Cascade" with subtle differences..!! If you have a good FM signal you should be able to get AM, have you tried to tune manually, or just auto..?? Manual may be better at fine tuning a signal..!!

Hey guys,

some questions on this. I'm about to upgrade the speakers in my Gransport right now. If I understand everything right - it's a 3-way system front and back. In the doors you got tweeters in the top of the door and for bass and mid-tone the lower 165mm round speakers in the foot-area. In the rear you have these akward sounding 5x7 speakers (where I didn't find any speaker on the web meeting the fitting requirements of 165mm x 115mm since they are all at least 10mm wider in each direction) for high and mids and the woofers under the windows for low frequency. So if you replace the components individually you wouldn't need a crossover at all? If so I sourced some which will fit plug and play - tweeters for the fronts are ETON CX 280 HG which also have 64mm diameter and are said to be very good. for the passenger 5x7 I'm considering Planet Audio V5720 which will also fit straight forward not having such an immense body as all the later 5x7 speakers (180 mm x 125mm) I found. For the drivers door I'm still looking for a good 2-way replacement but need to make sure it's bass and mids not mids with tweeters as most are. Also can you just cut the wires and assume that these with any colour plus black are the right ones for the " - " position on the new speakers?

cheers and all the best, Sebastian:frusty5:

The tweeters have plugs on them, as do the basses as well if I recall. It's been a while since I did mine.

This is the 4200. Not sure if the GS is the same

Seb,
If you cut the wires, make sure you keep one as either positive, or negative, on each feed and make sure they are the same as each other, otherwise you could put the system out of phase and lose bass..!!

Thanks,

I started to get everything out and then measured it, obviously there's no (!!!) aftermarket 5x7 speaker available which directly fits. I ordered the V5720's for that reason. I'll only go for new tweeters in the front and ordered ETON CX 280 because they're some of the best out there and also have 64mm so will fit plug'n play. Reading the posts I was wondering, why you guys replaced the rear shelf speakers (subs only I would say) with full range or 2-way speakers? Besides: have the car 2 weeks now and even if weather is really bad it's an absolute pleasure to drive. Only that fuel gauge.....

Fitted my front component speakers yesterday, identical to the Alpine ones Matt used in post one of this thread. For reference my car is an 05 GS fitted with the Auditorium 200 upgrade.

Tried several different ways of connecting them up -

First connected them directly in place of the factory units without using the supplied crossover, then with the tweeter in the factory wiring and the new woofer going through the Alpine crossover. Finally with both connected to the Alpine crossover taking its input from the lower factory woofer cables. Of the three the best sound came from the third option, the tweeter seemed to be getting the full range of frequencies if we didn't use the crossover so i presume there are no resistors in line in the factory cables to filter the sound? Certainly couldn't find any, although the wire goes off into the loom so its hard to follow.

Fitted the crossovers in the door cards beside the speakers, there is just enough room to place them in if you orientate them the correct way.

Still got to fit the rear side and shelf speakers but the sound has improved a lot already.

Got around to fitting the two sets of rear speakers today. The sound is vastly better than stock and i would recommend the upgrade to anyone who has more than a casual interest in the sound of the stereo.

I followed the fitment guides in post one of this thread but found a few tips that may help out others when fitting their speakers:

I was able to fit the rear shelf speakers by removing the rear seat back only rather than taking the whole rear shelf out of the car. Removing the seat back allows access to the speakers connectors to unplug them. If you then unclip the speaker grilles it is possible with the right type of screwdriver to take out the speakers with no further disassembly of the car. I thought this easier than removing the entire rear shelf.

Similarly after removing the top of the side panel trim and speakers i made a template out of a cereal box for the dynamat, shaping it around the lower panel fixings. Then i cut the dynamat to match the template and stuck it down without the need to take the lower section of the side panels or rear seats out. For connecting all of the speakers up i used Connects2 CT55-CT01 speaker connectors so there was no need to cut the factory wiring in any way - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/acc...speaker-loom-adaptor-for-alfa-citroen-peugeot

It was also noteworthy that contrary to what is posted earlier in this thread regarding the wiring, when using the in line connectors above (which can only fit into the factory plug one way) the positive wire had the stripe on it when connecting the rear shelf speakers up, but the stripe was on the negative wire when connecting the side panel speakers up. If i had cut the old factory plugs off and crimped on spade connectors or made a soldered joint i would have reversed the polarity on at least two of the speakers. I am going to remove the front door cards again soon and check the polarity of the front speakers because i cut off the plug assuming the striped wire was negative but i see now that i may have been wrong!

Hopefully those tips may help someone else who does this upgrade and thanks to SM & Matt for the how to guides in post #1.
