Spacesaver request

I think our very own forum as answered the question already!

http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/sho...-Wheel-Vs-996-C4S/page2?highlight=Space+saver

Volvo XC90 with a 15mm spacer.

Looking on Eurospares, the 3200 spare is fully inflated, and the 4200 spare requires inflating.
Are they interchangeable? Is the hole in the boot for the 4200 smaller than the 3200?

The 4200 spare barely fits the boot cavity deflated

No chance of fitting in there anything pumped up

I dont beleive the 2 r interchangeable

U can buy a front wheel 18" for a 4200 series and use that as a spare for frt/bk

The 3200 spare might not fit in the 4200 boot space, must surely must fit on the car?

I've got a Volvo spare wheel from my mate. I have yet to try it since I haven't got a spacer yet and there is no way it will clear the caliper without a spacer.

I did try to put it into the boot which is impossible to fit The tyre is way too big for the wheel well.

Picture of a 3200 spare wheel, fully inflated, in the boot?

So...just asking......runflats aren't an option....practical/available....cost?

P

Run flats are horrible to drive on IMO. The sidewall is so hard it changes the feel of a car. I'd never fit them.

I have runflats on my BMW.
Not silly low profile by bare able 45 profile.
They are ok.
Had two 'flats' and drove ok on them.
Funny thing is, drove for over 25 years without a single puncture, get this BMW and two flats within 3 months of each other!

It definitely won't fit in the boot recess as the profile 55 makes the rolling diameter much more than the spacesaver or even the full sized wheels, so at very least you need a new spacesaver tyre with a much lower profile.

Ok...could live with it not fitting in recess........just a question of rejigging packing of other luggage, but only a once a year job

For what it's worth a 4200 front wheel will stand up in the boot of the GS fully inflated. Far and away the cheapest spare wheel option IMO. Uses a lot of boot space but two decent sized soft bags still go either side.

Again Geoff, how safe to use on rear...ie.....insurance people won't be too happy if you come a cropper even at 30mph!!

Can't answer specifically Frank but in my view would be perfectly safe. I would go so far as to say safer than the space saver tyre in many respects. Can't imagine it's any riskier from an insurance perspective than driving around with DBW , X pipes etc fitted and not telling your insurer.

We have some friends around at the moment with a Volvo XC90, so have had a look at the spacesaver.
Firstly if you have a XC90 and suffer a puncture, call the breakdown services! You have to winch the wheel down that is suspended under the rear, what a pain!
It's much smaller in height than the Volvo wheel, by inches, but unfortunately still taller than the Maserati wheel, not a lot, but I would not want to fit it being taller.
Consequently It will not fit in the boot, well not under the boot floor anyway.
Didn't bother to try and fit it on the hub, its a no go for me unfortunately.
