SOLD 2004 E55 estate S211 RY53 AWX 5.5 litre supercharged engine : 476bhp SOLD

Bought at 117000 miles August 2015 and now showing 157100 miles

3 previous owners

This is a great car, one of the best I’ve had. It’s quick, huge and has been very easy to live with.

They have an excellent spec anyway but the main options are the, always popular, boot bench seat to make it a 7 seater, the cooled seats, which although whilst they do operate they don’t do much and dynamic seats. This means the bolsters inflate as you corner as well as a massaging option.

Duo tone seats in blue and black which are in excellent condition and everything works including the rising parcel shelf.

Viseoo Bluetooth phone connectivity in the centre console.

Refurbed headlights and the bodywork is generally in excellent condition. I replaced the chrome load area trim as it was a bit bashed and the protective blue film is still there.

Tyres are Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5 on the rear with 5.5 mm tread and Pirelli P-Zeros on the front with 4.5 mm.

In the last 5 years it’s been looked after by a local, ex MB Swindon tech who is excellent. It doesn’t seem that it has needed much beyond routine service and maintenance but there have been a few things.

This year it’s had a considerable amount spent and should now be ready for a good few years service.

MOT – 19/09/2023
Prior to my ownership it was serviced at MB Chelsea and Startech in Chessington.
All services when requested by Assyst. All GM Enterprises Swindon

May 18 – Rear airmatic bags replaced
Jan 19 – full wheel refurbishment, Platinum autos Swindon
May 19 – service, discs and pads front and rear Mileage 139256
Aug 19 – Gear selector module replaced
Nov 20 – service, front tie rod ends
Mar 22 – Radiator, transmission cooler oil pipes, front engine mounts, refurb airmatic compressor, new airmatic valve block, cylinder head covers and crank seal ventilation lids, steering rack mounts, front brake lines
Apr 22 – front torsion control arms, spring link arms, anti roll bar links, rear brake pipes and flexi hoses (Avantguarde Clevedon)
May 22 – both rear, electronic, shock absorbers, compressor gasket
July 22 – service (Automerc Newbury)
Aug 22 – OSR airmatic air bag replaced. Geometry and ride heights (Automerc Newbury)

Bad bits – front passenger park sensors don’t like getting wet and show a fault at times. There are a few marks on the headlining that my local car trimmer said I should leave alone. Some stone chips commensurate with age.

Fuel consumption is up to 25mpg on a run, 18 or so around town and 9 around Longleat safari park.

This isn’t a super low mileage garage queen but it has been sensibly used and well looked after with the odd age commensurate mark and it has been very reliable.
It will be a very reluctant sale and I may well regret it but time to move on.

The car is in North Wiltshire

GLWTS, I'm forever tempted by the C/E63 from this era but heard plenty of good things in 55 flavour too.

Cracking cars these and I have had two of them. Tempted again to make it 3 but could do with something a little newer. Looking for an A6 Avant or Q7/SQ7 but still very tempting!

Very nice, looks a lovely example and you’ve clearly looked after it. The Estate is the rarest of the 55k’s and usually sought after. I had x2 CLS55 AMG’s and absolutely loved them. The engine is thunderous and relatively bullet proof. I ran both at 580-600bhp with no issues at all. I think your advert on the MBClub forum will trigger some interest.

All the best with the sale.

9 mpg at Longleat Safari Park? You shouldn't let the chimpanzees drive it. They have no respect.

Good luck with the sale.

I had 2 of these, sold both to friends who ran them for years. The last one I sold at 120k miles and is now being sold with over 200k. The core is very strong, just need to avoid water coming through the bulkhead and drowning the various ecus under the front seats!
Only wish they sounded as good as the SL55 - probably possible but too quiet std. No depreciation in 6 years is nice too.

Can be improved with adding an X-Pipe and or by changing the back boxes to either CLS55 or C63 AMG back boxes, the latter requiring slight modification. Sound amazing once done…

Always found the wagon had really good traction as the weight shifted backwards and the rear really sat down as tyres bit into the road. So much better traction than the SL55 I found which was nowhere near as good.

It's a fantastic machine and a huge amount of car for the money. I looked at the equivalent Audi products but the bork factor seemed that much greater.
It's been an expensive year for it but otherwise it's been reasonable to keep, maybe fuel aside but you go into it knowing that.
It's a better car in every way than the c55 but has more complex systems which work well but cost to upkeep.
We've bought a cls 63 estate to replace it which is quicker again and I like the shape. The kids need less cumbersome luggage now so a slight drop in capacity is fine. It isn't much to be fair.
Tempted to store this but really it needs to be used so we'll see who wants it!

For all that.

Or circa £15k ish for a 2010 XJL Supersport with 500bhp. There are some cracking luxury barges around that nobody wants for not a lot of cash.

The E55K fits nicely into that category but our gain and others losses. I bought an old 2005 Cayenne for £3k earlier this year which is probably less than the down payment on a bottom of the range rental Tesla
