Soft touch remover > Sticky button magic

So we've got something new on the shelf,
A friend of ours and the shop detailer has after tons of tinkering managed to do a specially formulated compound for Maserati/Ferrari/Lamborghini soft touch paint.
Luckily I've got tons of trashed Maserati bits to experiment on.

Alright so this cleaner reacts with the transparent "soft touch" clear coat layers and acts as a removing agent without touching the lower layers.
This makes it possible to remedy sticky buttons and trim DIY you'll just need a good quality microfiber cloth and some spare time.

At the moment we're selling it in 250ml bottles which should get you very far in a interior, pictures below if 4200/3200GT trim and a few QPV/612 bits.
€29,95 a bottle, and you'll need a bunch of common microfiber wipes.

I do need to check with my shipping agent if we can just fly over chemicals the UK.

Good work. That could come in handy for lots of people.

Did someone on here not say that Iso-Propanol does the trick? I can't now quite remember.

As for sending chemicals, much depends on what they are. If they are deemed Hazardous and/or Flammable, carriage becomes more difficult (i.e. more expensive) as some companies are not willing/licensed to carry them. But I'm sure that if you contact your local DHL / FedEx office they will able to offer advice.

It's not what it's made for but it does actually work. A fair bit of elbow grease required but gets there in the end. My steering column shroud looks exactly like the 'after' pic above

Only if you want to take the paint off

Iso can be used on the vents which are not painted.

Thanks Jamin - I’m going to try this as I only have one slightly sticky button and that’s the Sport one.

Anyone know what causes it to happen? The Sport button is the only one I seem to use regularly, so do I need to wash my hands even more often or wear some leather driving gloves and a flat cap?

To add to other comments, I've been able to get similar very good results with Isopropyl alcohol or surgical spirit (available at your local pharmacy for about £3!) and some wire wool.

Ive just spent the last few days sorting the vent rings and the steering wheel shroud...
ive tried Isoprop panel wipe, thinners, acetone and white spirit so far...
You lot are having a laugh ! Oven cleaner with lemon juice indeed...!
Its easier to clear the parts of any product( back to plastic) and start again. Christ what a mess this sh1t is..
I cannot see the little buttons coming out too well after what I had to do to get rid...

I de stickied some qp vents with nail polish remover. I would probably not use it on the painted buttons though unless I had a spare or old one to test it on first.

So, Does this leave the black on the buttons, removing only the transparent layer that has gone sticky.

The buttons are white plastic and then the black rubberised coating over the top.

They are then laser etched the icons so this if you remove the sticky and the black coat you end up with a white button.

SportsItaia (ie me) are considering doing this but it is incredibly labour intensive as Roland/Stickplastics does not appear to be doing this anymore…probably due to the mess and the time to do it.

Someone in the UK needs to be doing this and there is a business opportunity here for anyone interested.

But it is a very involved job and not for the faint hearted

I think it's something to do with the soft touch laquor the Italians use - I recently found a pair of sunglasses from my mountain biking days which were wrapped up in the bottom of a bag at the back of a cupboard for a few years - they too had gone sticky and cleaning it off revealed the white underneath. :(

If you look in Halfords, you can still buy this sh1te in an aerosol now...!
Years ago, I came across Plastidip. Great I thought- I tried it on a plastic fuel tank. It claims chemical resistance after all...Came out ok. Brill. First time I refueled it was destroyed instantly on contact with a single drop of petrol...

I'll probably get a bottle when im in for service in a few weeks. Only after a demonstration offcouse :)

I used the neutrogena make-up removers but messed up with the gear indicator. So if this really only removes the upper coating i will be very happy. Bit more expensive compared to the other alternatives but i don't think any of these alternatives are 'fool proof'.

Will report back!
