Well we all knew it was coming. I didn't expect the govt to be so short sighted and dense to start doing it so soon! Maybe wait until the revolution is at mid-flow rather than just starting maybe?

I cannot understand how short sighted these idiots can be. The one thing that can really make a massive change to our planet and start to make a dent in reducing global emissions and they try to kill it before it has even really started. Very clever! Idiots!!

It’s a bit of a sensationalist headline. They’ve removed the grants for hybrids and made it a flat £3500 for EV’s. They’re much cheaper nowadays so I doubt it really makes much real difference. They’re trying to push people in to EV’s rather than PHEV’s.

Typical Daily Express sensationalism, as Dicky says, I was also reading elsewhere that NEW petrol and diesel engined cars will be banned from 2032.

So Maserati had better hurry up with the V8 petrol Alfieri

I don't think it is so sensationalist to be honest but I know what you mean. Anything that causes bad publicity or reduces the rate of uptake is a seriously bad own goal IMHO. We need to accelerate the rate or change not give people the opportunity to resist change. This is coming from a staunch supporter of the V8 obviously but I understand the need for change.

Why give anyone any excuse to resist change. This should not be a money exercise at the moment. It is the same as providing better fibre connectivity around the country for the long term needs. Again the govt is very slow and very short sighted IMHO. The fibre infrastructure is actually very relevant to electric cars as the infrastructure to support electric will be needed. Poor electric infrastructure.....poor connectivity.......it all falls down.

Some people are not thinking creatively enough, aggressively enough or long term enough for me.

They’re promoting EV’s over PHEV’s therefore requiring improved not downgraded infrastructure.

Agreed.....which in the main is OK for yesterday but massive holes in national high speed Internet connectivity exist today and tomorrow. The govt are relying heavily on private enterprise with 5G mobile networks filling in the gaps that the govt have left unfilled for many many years with their lack of foresight and investment in the nations physical fibre cabling infrastructure.

Think you need to blame the Express rather than the Government for their deliberately negative take on what appears to actually be a positive thing the Government is trying to do. We see this all the time in the media at the moment, particularly around Brexit.

Also, are cars really the obvious target for making a significant dent in this environmental problem. I had read recently that reducing cow farming would have a much bigger impact and could save our V8s

Sounds positive to me, more steaks and more leather for our interiors :)

Electric cars are for gullible idiots who have already given up. Hands up all those that didn’t enjoy the weather this summer. Driving a convertible in the sunshine is one of life’s pleasures and driving one with a V8 is the reason the summers are getting better. You’re welcome.

...and am in right in saying, with the HFC you can plumb it into a 4 stroke engine?

There you go, Ill be doing my bit for the future...you're welcome :)

A nice thought Matt but you are not going to be converting any present engines to run on hydrogen as the engine needs to be a long stroke (or wankle) and must be supercharged! it is also a lot more expensive for the bang to make and store. Efficient HFC vehicles will use the reaction to generate electricity which is 2-3 times more efficient....

I’ll stop using fossil fuels when transport ships do. As their heavy oil is the last part of the distillation process I reckon they will still be making petrol as that is one of the first.

When I got home today, my daughter says, are you still using that bag, I’ve been using the same plastic bag for carrying lunch to work for years, I proudly announced I was doing my bit to save the planet, she then said, says the man who just parked a Maserati on the drive, I just said it’s Ying and yang, busted. Lol.
