Has anyone ever fitted an x-pipe and sports cats with standard 4200 rear boxes??

Would it sound similar to if you did the same thing to a GS?

Next week i'm going to fit sports cats and an X-pipe to my GS but will leave the original valved rear boxes, to be honest i never have the car out of sport mode but i think it might be quite loud with the new cats and x-pipe so i will probably take it out of sport for when i'm leaving/returning through my housing estate

If i had a 4200 i'd definitely be replacing the rears if more noise is what you're after

As you have a GS I would say yes. The GS has valved boxes as standard, so it's good to have the option on the aftermarket boxes as well.

If you want more noise after you have fitted the sports cats and centre pipe, we can modify your standard rear boxes to give you quite a bit more sound. We are fitting a set of modified rears to Matts spyder in the very near future. We will try and get a 'before and after' video to post.

Benny, bought a GoPro hero III last week, it will be used at the test.

Watch this space, not long now.

I am thinking of buying one of those to take to Le Mans. I wouldn't want it to be used to incriminate me though!

I'll check what it sounds like after i've had the work done next week but if it leaves me wanting even more noise the option to have it and still have the valved option sounds pretty hard to resist :)

Thanks. Just thinking whether I should get Larini valved boxes ?

You should indeed. Without doubt the best sounding exhaust there is for the Maser, there's plenty of other companies and individuals who try and replicate the Larini, but ive found none of them come close to Larini. Adding extra volume is a simple hack on any exhaust. Having the ability to remove the unwanted frequencies and enhancing the wanted frequencies and tones is a completely different ball game.

All my Masers have had Larini's on them, wouldnt compromise with anything else.

Not too sure, I have unvalved larini rear boxes and like many others with the same, suffer from drone at low revs?

Well....my straight throughs do drone.....but only in a narrowish rev range....so try to avoid it.....and then just floor it when I can to unleash its glorious roar......:)

So where is the sound engineering with the larini when a straight pipe replacement does the same drone...

Mike....in all honesty, you'd need to listen/drive 3 or so variations.....do a cost analysis per extra decibel/throaty roar versus drone levels against pounds per set

I would not expect any drone, especially with a premium exhaust from larini.
Do the valved larini drone, or maybe only when open?

Yes! Only between 2.5k and 3k, but that's the rev range used when not doing spirited driving. My Larini's were on the car when I bought it. I can't say I would have been happy if I'd laid out the wrong side of £2k for them. I love the noise they unleash as I think the standard GS pipes are too quiet, but the payoff is the drone.

My Larinis drone between 2 and 3k. Annoying to say the least, and I don't really want to have to drive either side of it. Incidentally, I contacted David at Larini and he wasn't interested. He might be if sales are affected by pressure from forums like this.

So where is the quoted technical ability of Larini to remove unwanted frequencies wih reference to drone issues reported on previous posts ?
