Hoping to set the fine members of SM a challenge during these difficult times.

Most of you will have seen some upsetting video clips and social media post about staff in the front line and vulnerable people struggling to get some shopping in.

Also aware many of you may be in enforced absence from work.

So how about putting your DIV tools down, the lawn mower away, and polish the car another day. In replacement get down to your supermarket and buy some extra food and drop it round your nearest Key Worker building or an vulnerable neighbours.

Some may already be helping and for that we are all grateful... but if you have yet to do this please do so.

Im dropping this to the BRI on my way home tonight after shedding a tear or two after watching the nurse in her car after her shift.

I’m sure they’ll particularly enjoy that bottle of Pol Roger. Don’t forget to put that in the box.

We have Postman Pat who was collecting stuff from the Supermarket each morning and then dropping it off at those less mobile, we suggested we would like to help and now each morning he drops off out post and collects a few items of food to add to his delivery. Quite a few of our neighbours and others on his rounds now also do the same thing and now Pat collects enough from us not to have to visit the Supermarket.

Shopped yesterday for my two 80-year old neighbours. Easy to do and rewarding - they even gave me a tip!
Amusing part was getting the money to me without getting close "I'll put the money on the kerb over here Dave" Queue the wind.....

Can I suggest not popping down to the Supermarket, but rather picking it up when you have to go anyway? Making a special trip (unless you have a specific case where people are needing specific items seems contrary to current advice?

In no way trying to invalidate the suggestion. It's imperative to support each other. Just thinking about minimising the risks.

Or get involved in one of the local response groups on Facebook. They will have processes to get supplies out.

Same here.

23 flats in our block and we are the second youngest with many over 70's. Had a couple of calls already and many more to come I'm sure. Have also set up a few Zoom meet ups with those who can and the first couple we have done have been well received.

Not much but it helps I guess.

We're doing the shopping for our neighbours who are into their 70's. And the mother-in-law around the corner (another 70+).

Asked the fella over the road and he said "p1ss off, I'm not ready to get in my box yet"
Not sure what to make of that. On one hand he's not ready and the other he's putting himself at risk.......

At least Mrs C's mother didn't 'nip to the CoOp' today. Not sure if it's me making her promise yesterday or something else.

We have a regular shop booked - with Waitrose
Wife has dropped note through the doors of 4 elderly neighbours and the NHS / Police we are aware of offering to add items to our list and drop them off.
This morning I dropped three separate bags of shopping to various neighbours -
I think generally the U.K. are quite good at supporting others when the chips are down.
A neighbour has a sign up “Free Bog Roll” if you are in need take a roll. 3 single rolls on his doorstep ! Says in a week only 4 rolls have been taken -

Been on the case for the last 10 days - hence haven't really been on this forum. Fortunately I have the email address for most of the 100 households on this estate (thanks to an attempted gypsy invasion on our green last summer - but that's another story) and 50% probably fall into the 70+ group. All the helpers and needer are brilliant and we're hoping for a BIG party on the green when it is all over!

My wife and I went for our “permitted” exercise today walking via a local elderly lady who was turning 90yrs today but on her own with no visitors.
Local neighbourhood App was asking people to wave and wish her a happy Birthday. We went into full Happy Birthday to you mode and felt like we had done our bit !
