A couple of years ago I set off from home and realised I’d left my phone. Turned around and went back for it. Looked all over the house but no phone. Gave up and went back out to the car and there it was on the drive crushed as I’d just run over it.
Ouch
I bought an ipad about 6-7 years ago , had it a week and it went missing , couldn't find it anywhere

Then I sat on the side of the sofa I don''t normally sit on , the electric recliner mechanism wasn't as smooth as the other side

Well it wouldn't be with the crushed remains of a £300 ipad stuck in it would it

I questioned my son and yes, he didn't think the sound of crushing glass and plastic was anything unusual as he raised the recliner, he did lower it when he felt resistance ½ way but a second go finished it off.

Here's a challenge.

I'm thinking of converting a 4m by 2.74m bedroom into a cinema/audio room and occasional guest bedroom. It has a built-in cupboard which I plan to use to put all the equipment but what would be a good setup? You have a £5k budget to fit a sofa bed, screen, speakers, turntable, CD player, amp/av reciever, dvd player. I already have an apple tv box. A plan is below. View attachment 78975
This is what I did in a similarly sized room in my old house. Pull-down screen in front of the window. HD projector. B&W speakers front, Wharfedale rears. Yamaha AV receiver, plus CD player and Blu Ray DVD player, all bought off Ebay.
Couple of reclining chairs. All worked really well.

I can't tell you how ** off I am about it.

Sony aren't exactly being helpful with their send it back so we can have a look at it offers

I'm either getting replies from a bot or they want me to send the RH one Iback though I'm fairly sure if I do i'll get a letter asking why I've only sent one

BECAUSE I'VE *** LOST ONE

FFS

the email asked me to send what I have back to Sony where they'll be able to help me , just received the estimate to get it "repaired"

Replacement ear piece £74.51
Labour !!! £25
Carriage £10
VAT £21.90
£131.41

I can buy a new pair for £134 from Costco

Best bit is if I refuse the estimate to get it back it's £30+ £12 post

Update
They're sending it back at no cost , they reduced it to £109 but even at that I'd be better off with a new set , if they'd just put the price in the email I'd never have sent it off

I've just got my turntable and amp out of the cupboard after the flood that I had in my house 18 months ago . The only problem is that most of my vinyl was water damaged as it was at floor level . In the panic to save everything in the room I just picked it all up and put it in the garage . Came back a week later and all the sleeves had stuck together and also stuck to the records . I managed to salvage a few but they are crackly as h3ll. Mind you I did have to resort to washing them in the sink . I did nt have much so I am just starting to re buy it all . I mostly only buy classic albums . its the old ones from the 80s that I will miss . And I think "Basil Brush story time" that i found in my parents loft is no more . :p

They would just send you a new one and throw the old one in the skip.
Possibly but the RH headphone and case are worth £70-80 so I may as well sell those and put the money towards a new pair from costco .

If I keep them chances are if I lose one again it'll be the wrong one

Martyn,

Can't help with the record sleeves but I have a professional record cleaning machine that you are more than welcome to borrow when restrictions allow. It will probably save the records themselves.

Does Basil Brush count as 'professional', Robin?

It would be interesting to see how it fares. I guess that most of the issue is going to be the salts from the water that are now crystals on the records. I assume your machine uses de-ionised water?

Yes de-ionised water and a cleaning solution, then vacuums the record dry.

Mate got a record cleaner when he purchased a new deck, industrial level thing but it certainly brings back the records to outstanding quality. He plans to bring it over there when lockdown is over so that i can clean all my records - to be honest I think he just wants me to get back into vinyl so we can share some of the old stuff we both have.

Not really audiophile related but I am creating an additional outdoor space (very similar to this https://www.sunslifestyle.com/shop/gazebo/rota/rota-3m-x-6m-gazebo/) and want to be able to listen to music.

So I need recommendations for permanent outdoor speakers. I am not prepared to tolerate low quality sound but fully appreciate that I am going to have to compromise (from my home set up) to an extent. I am thinking standalone (i.e. integrated controls and amp) powered Bluetooth speakers are the way to go.

I have found these https://audioinstallations.co.uk/product/pair-5-25-bluetooth-weatherproof-wall-mount-speakers-white/ but don't imagine they will offer the sound I want.

Any ideas? Most of the hi-fi solutions I have found don't seem to offer bluetooth connectivity.

Just add a blue tooth gadget attachd to one of the inputs of teh amp - they can be as cheap or expensivie as you want

I've got one of these attatched to my ancient audiolab and works well. Son mightlity impressed he can play is stuff throuygh my system and make alot of noise!
