I'm gonna doubt it. Touch controls normally used to use the current (voltage?) induced in the human body. I suspect it's either an insulation issue or one of the components has gone out of spec so it's effectively become far too sensitive.

Should be quite easy to fix for a competent repair shop, though

I think your diagnosis is correct , I've been using it for a few days now , it's perfect for about an hour every time from cold , once it's warmed up it's straight to 78 rpm
Ok if you only want to listen to one album but you're stuffed if it's a double.

What if it's pinky and perky? ;)

Hello all. Say hello to my man cave. Well dog cave with occasional man timeshare bits. As you can see I have completely the wrong type of speakers for the room, but firstly - what speakers would do a decent job for say around £300?
I’d need fully ‘round’ bass - not something that emphasises ‘thump’.
Secondly - positioning. As you can see, between the sofa, the records, the dogs and the old car magazine reference materials I’m not blessed with space. Wall mounts halfway up either side of the low rack where the computer is?
As you can see I’m completely new to this...
Oh, and Lionel says hello.

How much vinyl!!!!?

C

Not up to date. I’ve stopped buying now, have an Alfa etc but it’s somewhere near the 2000 releases stage. No idea how many actual individual vinyl records. Most of them are 12in singles.

In case anyone’s wondering the other largely white section contains CAR 1978-2014, Evo 22-mid 200s, Autosport 1986/7 to 1993, various old F1 mags from the 80s and a few random Motorsports/Performance Car.

If anyone wants rid of 80/90s Performance Car or Fast Lane I’ll happily take them off your hands. Quite where i’d Put them, mind...

Morning Nayf and Lionel :)

Wall mounting speakers for hi-fi stereo use is often considered wrong .... and certainly it is challenging. You have to consider how the speakers respond to positioning (some like to be a good distance from the wall) and you need a stand / mount that adequately isolates the speaker which can prove expensive. And from an OCD perspective, unless you chase the wires into the wall, dangling wires look ****!!

I would always recommend floor standers to anyone wanting a well reproduced bass but it looks as if you are going to struggle with space. Bookshelf speakers could be an option and as a slightly left field option you could go with wall mounted satellites and a sub.

I don't have much experience of speakers at this price range but a mate (who has similar space constraints) has just bought some Dali Opticon 2 bookshelf speakers and I was very impressed. (I also own some Dali speakers.) You should be able to pick these up second hand in your price range.

Also you need to consider what the wall is made of. Gyproc will resonate horribly.

I also am well out of touch at that price point, but you have some nice brands to choose from: Monitor Audio, Klipsch, Acoustic Energy, Kef, Mission and Dali!

I am in the process of unpacking some 2000 plus car a magazines and have been enjoying what I have found almost complete sets of Performance Car and Fast Lane from 80s 90s period plus many odds and sods Auto Italia, Classic Cars etc but mainly Classic & Sportscar complete sets from 1996 onwards and lots of odd ones before that date

Always liked a bit of hifi.
Current set-up has my iphone streaming into a Chromecast. The bits after that are as follows:
Chord Hugo M-Scaler --> Chord Dave --> Cyrus X300 Signatures --> Kudos Titan 808 speakersView attachment 65496

How are you getting on with the Kudo 808s? We are thinking of getting them when we move house if the room suits. EIther that or 707s 0r 606s - it looks like you have them close to the boundary walls - do they still work well?

My hi-fi knowledge is woefully out of date, and terminology isn’t my strong point. But I thought I had an “active” system and have three separate Linn amps powering my Linn speakers (one amp for the tweets, one for the mids, and another for the woofs). But this means I have more stuff, more wires, more mess. Not less. Or have I got myself horribly muddled up?!

Anyway, it’s in our winter dining room, which is only used rarely, and since plonking a Sonus speaker on a bookshelf in there about 10 years ago the Linn/Mitchell stuff hasn’t been used. Shame really.

Only just catching up with this Ewan but you do indeed have an active (or 'Aktiv' in Linn speak) system. You could stick a Linn streamer on the front of that and have something brilliant and convenient (and your turntable when you wanted that experience). It is a shame it is not being used. I remember I purchased some parts for my Linn LP12 turntable which were from Ross Brawn's third system as he upgraded as you can do over the years. My Linn LP12 is 35 years old but like Trigger's broom!

Audiophile...not so much, but being lockdown, I've just played about a bit.

CINEMA
Denon AVRx2300
KEF 2005 Eggs Front/Surrounds
KEF 3005 Centre
Custom - 12" Dayton Audio Titanic MK3 with BK 500W amp

During lockdown I relocated all the speakers and the TV for a more proper surround experience. The difference is night and day. I convinced my wife, she was onboard, the speakers are more intrusive in the room, and not as neat, but flipping heck it sounds great. Having KEF speakers all round, the sound matching is wonderful - it is very immersive especially for a fairly simple system.

Sub weighs +60KG! It is just insane. It was a new lockdown purchase. The low notes it can hit are incredible, it adds so much to the experience.

Hi-Fi

I actually had nowhere in the house to put this, but since I have taken a spare bedroom as my office in lockdown, I have now set up my old hifi here
This was my old hifi that i put together over a number of years from the age of 16! It has not been switched on since 2004!!!

Kenwood 3030r amp
Marantz CD6000 OSE (18th birthday present from friends!)
Denon TU260 LII radio
Sony JE-330 minidisc (I have no minisdiscs!)
Google Chromecast-Audio for streaming (recently added! discontinued but well reviewed)
Jamo Cornet 145 (but the bass drivers blew at a house party in 2002, so were replaced with something fairly high-end by a mate who worked in professional cinema audio)

I would like to upgrade the speakers and the amp to things I wanted back in the early noughties

Things loved back then....

Speakers
B&W 601 s2s
Vienna Acoustics bookshelfs
Monitor Audio

Amps
Roksan Kandy
TAG McLaren
Cyrus

@CatmanV2 and others - what upgrades would you do to the Hi-Fi?

Keep thinking about an LP12 but mate just bought a Rega Planer 6 and it is very good and a bit more stylish to pass the "does it look nice" that Mrs Z has for anything that goes in the lounge (me excluded of course) but I know that purchase will be the first cost as I will then start buying all the vinyl I sold years ago

The Linn factory is about a mile from my house, I went to school with the founder's kids, his son is now the CEO. It's an amazing building, super cool design. There's a great story about a super valuable bottle of whisky given to them by the boss of Technics when they sold their patent to them which may have accidentally been opened after a Saturday night out........maybe......

Mate of mine and a huge audiophile used to be a tech lead at Linn. He worked with Aston when they first started using Linn kit in their cars. The whole audiophile business strikes me as being at the top of a very perilous financial precipice which I should avoid.

In the earlier days of the Head-Fi forum, we used to welcome new members with the phrase "sorry about your wallet".

Very happy to have a dedicated cinema with Optoma projector, and full MA Gold Reference 7.1 surround. All the cables are hidden and the BR and processor live in my server cupboard with an IR repeater for control. Also does pretty cool Zoom calls :D

So much better than the local fleapit. Oh! And blackout blinds!

HiFi is unchanged, but not much time to use it now Mrs C is in all the time. Cyrus Stream XP, X-power and PSX-R hooked to Vienna Accoutics Beethoven Baby Grands
