Just noticed this, are you laughing at my STD catman :D

Should've kept my gob shut, it worked fine for an hour then went all pinky and perky , the 1978 touch electronics have proved to be problematic, it plays at 33 for a bit then jumps to 78 , must be a switch , if you keep your finger on 33 it's ok but as soon as you take it off the pigs are singing.

They were made by Scottish Transcription Developments , this is a STD 305D

No I was laughing at Eb!

Although I was toying with asking why on earth you'd use that as opposed to the Planar 3?

Nevertheless, these were all very strong performers, the STD 305S being particularly good value for money, offering far superior sound to a Rega Planar 3 without being substantially more expensive.

It sounds much better than the rega

Unless it's at the wrong speed :)

Surprised, but just read about it, well done!

There is that :D

I'm hoping it goes away with use

I'm gonna doubt it. Touch controls normally used to use the current (voltage?) induced in the human body. I suspect it's either an insulation issue or one of the components has gone out of spec so it's effectively become far too sensitive.

Should be quite easy to fix for a competent repair shop, though

Should anyone be in the position of having no current hifi and starting from scratch I would recommend they look at the option of active speakers. Far less clutter and fewer cables and more accurate and controlled sound. A win-win as our American cousins would say.

My hi-fi knowledge is woefully out of date, and terminology isn’t my strong point. But I thought I had an “active” system and have three separate Linn amps powering my Linn speakers (one amp for the tweets, one for the mids, and another for the woofs). But this means I have more stuff, more wires, more mess. Not less. Or have I got myself horribly muddled up?!

Anyway, it’s in our winter dining room, which is only used rarely, and since plonking a Sonus speaker on a bookshelf in there about 10 years ago the Linn/Mitchell stuff hasn’t been used. Shame really.

It’s a shame alright, I’ll take it off your hands for fifty quid and give it to a good home.

That's tri-amped! If you could squeeze them into the speaker they would then be active....

Pics from Christmas Eve, the last time we used that room. Just to show it’s quite dark, hence only used in winter. Only fits ten, but quite atmospheric and a nice place to dine.

I will sort the cables tomorrow it was just a case on getting it connected to check it all worked

That’s what it used to be until my wife commandeered it! (Hence the hi-fi)

My house would struggle to fit ten but I could squeeze the unused hifi in if it's in the way :D
