It’s going to go in my car first plus an upgraded capacitive touchscreen which is much more responsive.

It will be £100 more for the new box and upgraded touchscreen plus I will offer the upgrade box and screen kit for £250 for those whom wish to upgrade the gen one SM Carplay kit.

Also I am being told the new box will be Android Auto wireless connection in the new year.

Defo in for this. Will it do apple car play also?

It actually has both but at this time (no dongle req) CP wirelessly and AA wired only. It’s being upgraded to wireless for both in the NY so unsure to wait or not.

...and has to be tested of course first in my car so possibly it will be ready by time of order.

I have had a few calls from people about the other system out there: AUCar not being reliable.

the AuCar is a constant headache.
I considered it as a replacement for a dodgey NIT. When I realized that AUCar was really a front for a Chinese system I backed off, especially hearing the rage from version 1 owners having to fork out for v2 to solve unacceptable issues, and then even v2 is flaky. I bought a newish NIT who had done the switch in the US who openly admits his v2 still has issues and support is tortuous. But there again I'm not bothered about most of the facilities, wanting a NIT that doesn't fail but sit there, occasionally accepting a call or even more occasionally play sound.

Yeah there is literally zero support. No updates. Lots of bugs. Lots of bootleg stuff on it too like Torque I’m sure is not licensed, some wonky unsupported CarPlay. It’s like if you put a $75 android phone in your dashboard. I wish we could just easily get the CAN BUS boxes they use.

The new carplay box has arrived in the UK, not got it yet but will do shortly.

It took 3 days from South Korea, Royal Mail take longer to deliver first class Mail ffs

It should just plug into where the old box is but will require wiring mod I suspect. The Mas interface boxes are in stock also so we are looking good now.

Nowt to do with the SM CarPlay / Android Auto thingy, but CarPlay in general. I collected my Vantage yesterday after getting the infotainment dragged into the present century, including CarPlay. Love it. It's no exaggeration to say that it makes the experience of driving the car so much better. I'm not interested in calls and texts whilst driving (quite the opposite) but I am interested in having a good satnav with traffic, potholes, police etc warnings on a screen I can control without moving much from the driving position. By doing away with a TomTom screen or phone stuck to the windscreen CarPlay delivers that and more.

Highly recommended.

Agreed - for me it is the one thing that lets the GT down and I have been wanting this solution since I bought mine 18 months ago.

Two boxes. One is the carplay unit the other the interface box to the NIT/body computer
I know you said these won't work on the Bose system, but mine is currently pulled out and there is a large cable that plugs from the nit directly into the screen. I assume it may run the buttons too purely because of the size of the cable but is there a way of connecting to the screen?
