Thanks, yes, I'll be on WiFi. I'll give it a try in the morning. Although I'll be using android not apple, is it the same procedure?

It should do, it doesn’t know what phone is going to be connected.

Just plug it in the USB port, turn on then plug your phone in.

If it does not automatically see the phone, unplug the phone, boot the AutoKit app by pressing the Airplay button, then the AutoKit will boot. Press the cog top left and go through the settings, selecting Android Auto over Apple CarPlay. Exit, then connect the phone and it should auto boot into Android Auto. If not press the Airplay app again and it will connect if your settings are correct.

Any probs let me know and I will put you in touch with Alex, the dongle suppliers, he’s super helpful via WhatsApp.

If it hasn’t been mentioned already....I would also recommend turning off the Wifi connection once you are done - otherwise the system can get a bit flaky- especially when you drive down the street and it try’s to connect to every wifi network rather than the phone.

Ok, so I'm at a loss. I managed to download autokit, and get it to start, but it's now on a perpetual loop of saying, please connect phone, connecting, please connect phone.

Edit. So it turns out, that you must install Android auto AFTER the phone and car are connected, and then set a connection up with Android auto on the phone and with the car. I've managed, after 3 hours, to get most things working, however, I can't get the mic to operate properly at the moment. I have to go through the voice recognition on the phone every time for it to work.
Also, the clock on the "home screen" cannot be changed and it's about 7 hours ahead, although the clock in android auto works correctly by syncing with the phone

Please add me to the next batch, Matt.

Thanks to you and Zep for checking on suitability today, and for the demo.

How is the quality of the Bluetooth on the unit? Will I have trouble installing this if my car currently doesn’t have Bluetooth? I only have an aux and power box in the glovebox.

Do the camera have lines guiding you?

Decided to have a look behind the QPV head unit and check what circuitry is needed and what can be deleted for a latest head unit install/Apple Car play/Android..

So everything is easy enough to take apart. The systems I need for this vehicle are the bank of switches for door lock etc on left side and the Auto/Manual/Sport on right side. Also the heater control unit and the Clock function.

I’ve removed the original head unit and as temporary deleted it to see what works. To my surprise everything works except the clock!. But once the clock is set it reads the signal from the dashboard cluster to keep in time.

I think a new head unit would be straight forward as info/setup/C/Nav etc isn’t really a priority for the remaining items..

the Main connector you are holding in your hand is the same. You will need the video and power cables that links the non BOSE unit together. There are also 3 optical connectors I think I can see two of them.

Thanks Conaero. Yes there are 3 optical connectors I’m not sure what these are for at the moment.

I would like a confirmation if this can be installed on a car without Bluetooth, and without a data USB port. Only power USB port.

If this functions will this be able to give me Bluetooth phone connection as well through the provided app?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick post to introduce myself to the forum. The harness lead to prevent any cutting is now available to purchase on the website:
Maserati T-Harness HERE

My UK based supplier has unfortunately changed the pricing and is going to be retailing at £60 per unit. As an introduction, I have a discount running on the website for £15 off until the end of May. Use Code: SM2019 at checkout.

If I can guarantee 15 units, I would be able to negotiate the price with my supplier but the pricing currently is on a one-off basis.

You can order online and have it dispatched directly to you, or I can bring it with me to any installs I am doing and just add it to the final bill.

In regards to people asking about the forward facing camera, unfortunately I do not recommend this.
The way the system works, you either need to:
  1. Have a switch fitted to trigger the camera to appear on the screen
  2. Like changing source or your TV, you have to press the phone button to activate the CarPlay then the same button again to select the camera, for example, if you were listening to the radio and wanted to switch to the front camera you would switch to Carplay, then Camera, then back to radio.
Another point, a forward facing camera is NOT the same as any other camera. It has to be an extra wide fish-eye camera for the image to be any different to what you see out of the windscreen. Field of vision would have to be roughly 180 degrees.

If your vehicle does NOT have the AUX option please read the following. The CarPlay uses the AUX to play the sound through the system so if this isn't factory fitted an FM modulator is needed for the sound to play as if a radio station. Not a problem, but obviously an extra expense of roughly £75.

I take this opportunity to also highlight that I do offer a wide range of services e.g Alarms, Dash Cams, etc
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Regarding no aux input cars. The loudlink kit to fit an aux input may provide better soundquality.

Interested to see what the score is for your early QP kit. I also have the blaupunkt headunit and wanted to try it out.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm fairly sure we can gather 15 or more members to go in for the harness lead in order to secure a further discount. I would definitely be making a purchase.
