Have this for a couple of mins when cold. The car previously has had new variators and hydraulic lifters , recently had an oil change with an oil additive, any ideas ?

It really depends on the noise and where it is coming from to be honest. Probably a good idea to go over it with a automotive stethoscope (or a screw driver to the ear) and see where it is emanating from...

Will double check the oil that has been used, was done by an indy specialist so assuming that would be right

i had this ticking on a 4200 a while back, the car had little use and had been stood idle for several months, after i started driving it more regularly the ticking disappeared.

Or a screwdriver to the ear.....seriously? You learn some stuff on here.
I’ll try that the next time the little un comes down with a chest complaint- will save the doctor’s visit.

On rare occasion....I've heard a faint ticking noise right after cold-start-up, when the air pump is running - it stops when the pump stops. Is your noise similar?

I'm having an issue as well with a ticking noise between ''2.5 to 3k RPM only''...... A month ago I was checking the oil level then opened the oil fill cap on the rocker cover while the engine was running, little did I know the engine was a sealed crankcase under a vacuum while running. I'm not sure if it sucked in too much air which created an air pocket in the lifter that created the ticking noise. As the temperature gets colder outside the noise got worse. After a long run today I decided to open the oil fill cap again to listen inside. I also installed a mic and took the car for a spin to record the sound......NOTHING !! No noise between 2.5 to 3K RPM..... Im assuming by opening the oil fill cap again did something. I will take the car for a run again tomorrow and listen.

flat-12 , mine I think is a different noise. Very annoying as I had hydraulic lifter repair for 3k two years ago and it has started again. Its not terrible and coming to the conclusion that these cars suffer with a few noises when cold for a minute or so due to the oil draining back into the sump overnight .

The lifter noise is back. The lifter noise only presents itself from between 2000 to 3000 RPM . I changed the oil & filter yesterday, but with no change in tapping / lifter sound . I am going to remove the HIGH FLOW BMC AIR FILTER and re install the stock Maserati filter I was reading on another forum that the MAF sensor may be sending incorrect info to the timing ??

Does anyone have a PDF Shop Manual for a 2011 GTS 4.7 Liter

This is not my engine

Workshop Manual not sure if it is QPV or GT but its 700 pages of tech so likely to have what you need.

Thanks for the Manual Keano.
Parts cost to do the job.

1 - INTAKE CAM .................................................$2100.00
1 - EXHAUST CAM .............................................$1550.00
16 - TAPPET FOR VALVES ........$21.90 X 16 = $ 350.00
Total= $ 4000.00 US

I'm thinking on running a good additive detergent like Seafoam through the system for 300 km to remove any sludge or varnish buildup that might be clogging an oil passage / lifter .

If it is a faulty hydraulic lifter why would you need new cams?

Videos can be very deceptive when it comes to noises but that sounds a lot like you’ve got a defective PCV to me. Not sure where they are on a GT.

How strong is the vacuum if you put your hand over the filler hole with the engine running?
