Skyhook

The resistor could be a cunning plan. Easily reversed, and a money saver ! :numberone:

Do you mean SD3 ? The included destructions refer to SD2 .Screen grabs also show the same SD2.... I suppose it’s somewhat academic.

Ok- I think I understand. SD2 is older software for earlier cars...?

Thank you I'm here all week don't forget to tip your waitress.

No seriously what is that for?

Nothing like as exciting as you'd hope

Legal mandate in some Arab states that a buzzer sounds when the speed limit is exceeded. That can't be turned off by the user.

I have a dumb question regarding Skyhook...!
Does the cars suspension system not rely on any of the sensor data or ECU programming when not in Sport mode then...? If disabling Sport means I can unplug the dampers (and replace them) I have to assume the entire system is “inactive” when the button is not pressed....meaning the ECU is doing nothing with the non existent accelerometer data and so on... The logical conclusion reached, when disabling Sport allows the unplugging of the struts ( damper replacement...) is that the suspension is only “electronic” with Sport mode selected?
:thanks2:

Only quickly skimmed through the thread - so if it's already been covered....
But, I thought KW provide "error cancelling plugs" with the shocks?

Auto or manual @TimR? Mine does not have the skyhook option but pressing the button really tightens up the auto box/in gear revs

No..I think you might be thinking of the FD kit...

It’s a manual...
Thing is- when you turn the key, the ECU does a systems check. If a sensor is bad, it will light the dash (suspension) warning. For example...And this is without Sport selected.
The systems check is not necessarily related to Skyhook function...it simply asks the sensors if they are working..I assume. This means switching Sport to “off” as per the SD3, doesn’t mean you can remove hardware ( and sell it !) because it will all be missed when the key is turned...Which also means, somewhat ironically, that even with coil overs fitted, the car can develop dash/ sensor issues regardless they aren’t in use...

If my conjecture is right on the money, the resistor plan is slightly genius....:thumb3:
That is the route I would try first, it can't fail can it? It's a bit like the resistor i have built into my personality, if I can't be 4rsed with anyone the resistor just kicks in and I tell them what they want to hear so they leave me alone :)

I know the answer....!
Unplug the ECU in the boot and see what happens...!

Exactly... That breaks the circuit and you get a skyhook error on the dash

The skyhook dampers default into hard mode and the car becomes a bit twitchy compared to what its like in SPORTS... Guess with the skyhook dampers gone the only effect would be the error light

There are two options for you as far as I can tell.

If you unplug the damper the ECU will sense the open circuit and give you a nice light on your dash. You could, undoubtedly, measure the resistance of the coil in the damper and put a suitable resistor across the unplugged terminals and this should stop that.

The other one is turning it off using the SD3.

Hi ,

On M138's removing / unplugging the Suspension ECU will not illuminated the warning light , if I recall its because of the option of not having skyhook with the dash warning lights remaining standard.

Try it and see !!

When I was doing testing to figure out my sports mode issue I unplugged the suspension ECU and it did turn on the skyhook error light on the dash. The shock absorbers default into the hard setting

Can’t comment on the status of a dash light but KW advice is to start by unplugging the suspension ECU and the second stage isdisabling the Sport mode in the software.

If this second step was unnecessary, one wonders why this is the method cited to complete installation...?

Probably try it though...!

Had my KW V3s fitted last year, was worried about this issue but there was never a problem. Didn't need to disable anything, no errors, sport mode works fine etc. Just try it and see.

Hi Phil,
Did you unplug anything other than the shocks ( as they were removed) ?
KW advice is unplug the suspension ECU and disable Sport mode. I understand that they used to provide/sell a resistor built into a plug designed to close the open circuit at each corner..( created by the removal of the shock ' connection)
Could it be your car never had Sport enabled in the first place - The "Non-Skyhook" option...?
