Okay Guys I have been looking for a Boxster 987 S for awhile and have done a deal today on one in the UK.
I'm picking it up on Wednesday and will be driving it back to France where we will put it onto French plates etc.
I need the best way of short term insurance to cover me for a few days so any advice appreciated.

If you buy insurance there is a 14 day cooling off period we’re you can cancel it and get a full refund.

Problem is taxing the vehicle on short term insurance. Can you not get import plates in France Phil? These are temporary registration plates so you can take out your regular policy out there and then drive it un-taxed back on the temporary plates.

Pistonheads suggests borrowing dealer plates from your local friendly garage to drive it back on: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=891841

Not sure about this one but it claims export plates indicate no VAT paid???

The car is taxed and tested and I know things have changed since I left the UK.
The seller said he will delay sending the log book so the tax will stay on for me to get it back to France.

That is always a possibility Phil, hopefully your French insurers will work on the UK registration until it is changed than everything should be hunky dory!

Just phone your normal insurer the cost will only be around £30, why bother being potentially fraudulent

I heard that someone signed some sort of form at the dealership saying he was a delivery driver, and so could then drive (his car) home on the dealer's insurance and plates. (But if I were writing dealership insurance policies, I would explicitly exclude owners of vehicles.)

That's great news Phil...tell me more about the car you bought. They are great everyday driver cars.

As soon as i have picked her up Andy i will update the original thread.
A bit different to my original want list but special anyway.
A special paint match order being very light blue/silver metallic with a beautiful blue leather interior 2005 3.2 S Tiptronic which will suit me and Ms French better.
The only thing i want to do is fit some paddles which looks an easy job done by many using Merc AMG ones.
Looking forwards to driving it back from Silverstone to Laval.

Sounds like Polar silver. Has a blue tint to it in the sunshine. Lovely mate.
