Servicing costs

Now I know Maserati servicing was never going to be cheap but..
I typically paid around 750 - 950 for all the services on my previous Ghibli D. The most expensive service being the 5th one with the Aux belt.

So, come the new one I have now. Imagine my surprise when 2nd service (same dealer as all the other services) comes back at £1k. That is to change the following.. Engine oil / filter, Air filter, diesel filter and pollen filter. And that's it!

What's the breakdown with parts, labour and Vat ?
Just remember the car will be scanned and get the latest software updates and that all costs money.

They haven't sent that. I asked if they could do any better and they replied with its fixed cost from Maserati which is news to me..

I know it all costs money, the glass showrooms, the kit etc.. but that's a massive price increase in the last few years

Nothing new.
Went in for an oil change: BMW: done just 4k miles since last annual service. Thought £170 steep for an unskilled 'grease monkey' operation. Came away with £530 bill insisting on other service items irrespective of wear and whether necessary. That was a reduction from far greater bill after objecting them charging £160/hour 'Ferrari specialist ' rates reduced to £100/hour. 'You're not performing precision machining variators to match my heads' seemed to strike home.
And car just a mediocre BMW.
Local none dealer henceforth. Be glad when the wheels fall off it.
Rant rant rant.
Rant over
That's better

OK you can now add £50 for the courtesy car insurance if your own provider doesn't cover fully comp!

You’d really thought they’d learn. The sparse and poor dealer network screwed Jeep and Alfa in the uk.

Can you tell I'm bored
scuderia
Oil filter £38.90
Air filter 52.24
fuel filter £111.38
pollen filter £28.59
---------------------
£231.11
VAT £46.22
Oil shell helix 7 ltrs £78 opi oils vat inc
Total parts £355.33

That's no different to what my mechanic does on my van, he'd have that done in an hour , another hour to check all the obvious parts for wear

Totally agree but if you want all the software scanning and updating Dealer level diagnostic gear is expensive and it can take some time to do.
Just speaking from frontline experience mate.

Is that just another reason to keep charging you money though , my £700 phone has updates and they're free but the time put into developing them isn't and the computers they do it on isn't.

Or is it like most stuff, it's full of bugs on release then they find out where they are then they scan it and fix them.

The mustang was 3 services for £600 when paid up front

I doubt that £355 in filters and oil costs maserati £100 .

Totally agree but I know the costs payable to the premium manufacturers are eye watering for diagnostic gear and license for software etc.

I have an iPhone and am convinced their free updates are designed to slow the phones down and force me into changing
They are with apple , didn't they get taken to court for slowing iPhones down then pretended they'd done it to extend the battery life

Agreed , but I still think there's a massive profit on a £1000 oil and filters service £830 + vat approx , that's £500 for labour based on the RRP of the parts plus they'll be making on the parts.

Nice work if you can get it. :D

That certainly seems high, I know in the past when I have checked with main dealers some have quoted ridiculously higher figures than others. I had my fifth year service which as you say is a big one done for about £1,000 by HR Owen, whereas elsewhere I was quoted over £1,500! It seems to me that it's basically the case that a dealer will charge whatever they think the customer is rich enough to pay.

Not confined to phones or even recent 'computers '. A major manufacturer of mainframes offered several variants of 'fictitious ' 2790' say. All the same hardware. However. The mill and hardware was the first ever microcoded.... soft centred 'engine's. Any instruction set could be microcoded and loaded, be it old architecture to run legacy code or new 64 bit virtual machine. The super duper ones were very fast. The cheaper ones not so.

Merely a microcoded slug in one instruction.

Upgrade however took an expensive specialist hardware and software engineer 'all day' to perform on site: the delicate and complicated operation of upgrade taking full control of the mainframe preventing company operations for the day.
A simple 2 minute load of a patch to replace the slug.

Kaching. Several hundred thousand pounds. There were many very happy customers

Ring round some other dealers to see what they charge to service the same engine with their magic software wand :D

VM a630 3.0D

Fitted to

Maserati Ghibli

Maserati Levante

Maserati Quatroporte

Lancia Thema

Chrysler 300

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep Cherokee

Dodge Ram

the oil and fuel filters are £34 on eurocarparts so it's going to be a mass made filter in a maserati box

Had to look that up, someone really needs to put Lancia out of their misery.
